Bleeding On The Sidewalk Bleeding Andy Analysis
6. In the narrative, Andy is part of a gang called the Royals. They are given silk purple jackets for being part of the gang, but the jacket could symbolize much more than being part of a gang. At the beginning, Andy wore the jacket with pride, whenever he wore the jacket he was recognized and “respected.”After a while, Andy finds out the jacket will do more harm than good. On page 199 it says “there had been some sort of pride knowing he was a Royal. Now there was no pride at all.” He thought he ruled the world, but suddenly realized how pathetic he was lying on the sidewalk. He realized the hatred he received because of the jacket, which ultimately led to his demise. When he was lying there bleeding to death; he knew the man who stabbed

Throughout the story, "The Jacket", Young Gary's jacket represents many emotions. The main two I got from the reading was poverty and the young boys insecurity once he began to wear the jacket. When young Gary first walked into his bedroom and saw the new jacket on his bedpost he immediately disliked it. One of the representations of the jacket is poverty. He says, "I wanted to cry because it was so ugly and so big that I knew I'd have to wear it a long time." Towards the end of the story he says, "I wore that thing for three years." Another representation would be his insecurity. You know the young boy is insecure of his new jacket because at one point he says, " I sat on the bed, stood against the bed, and combed my hair to see what I look…

The image of accumulative heat in this chapter symbolically emphasises the rising friction between the characters; being oppressed by the hot temperatures and the uneasiness of the situation. The key example of the stifling heat is the mention of Nick’s underwear; “my underwear kept climbing like a damp snake around my legs” providing a grotesque image to accompany the uncomfortable temperature; hyperbolising Nick’s experience. If the reader is to assume the image of the warmness is symbolic of the inter-character tension, then it is interesting to observe the hypocritical role Tom assumes by declaring “The thing to do is to forget about the heat. You make it ten times worse by crabbing about it”. The event of Daisy and Gatsby’s relationship being unveiled is incited by Tom; thus he is clearly not “forgetting about it” when this symbol of heat is applied to the foreboding argument. By this statement of disapproving of Daisy’s reaction to…

Darabont and Kesey use messianic imagery to display conflicts between hope and oppression. Darabont portrays Andy as a humble Christ figure who “…had a quiet way about him,” and strolled like he had “an invisible coat that would shield him from this place [Shawshank prison]” suggesting the same modest traits of Jesus. Darabont uses this religious allusion to foreshadow that hope will prevail; Andy’s hope never fades, “…there is something inside that they can’t get to…Hope.” Darabont used a birds-eye-view shot to place the audience in a God-like position when Andy escaped; with his hands outstretched as if to say, ‘thank you God,’ emphasising his hope for success and being ‘reborn’, like Jesus, into freedom. In contrast to Darabont, Kesey uses messianic imagery to convey oppression prevailing. McMurphy states that he is “not a saint or a martyr.” Unlike Darabont’s portrayal of Andy as a sombre and modest Christ figure, Kesey portrays McMurphy as loud and confident but puts on a façade for the sake of others, asking “Do I get a crown of thorns?” when faced with electro-shock therapy and insisting “that it wasn’t hurting him,” telling the others that “all they was doin’ was chargin’ his battery for him.” Kesey portrays him as ‘self-sacrificial’,…

Andy Sachs did not fit in well at Runway. When starting work there, she had a very “plain Jane” style, and considered fashion and beauty to be overstated and excessive. Andy made fun of her co-workers and thought they were obsessed with their appearance. She constantly had to obey Miranda’s rules and commands, leaving no time for her family or friends. With time, Andy’s personality and sense for fashion slowly started to change. She began wearing designer clothing, putting work first before all other things, and started doing things the old Andy Sach’s wouldn’t have even thought about doing before. At this point, Miranda was showing full power and authority over Andy. She had used her power in such a way that had completely transformed Andy.…
