It tells how as a team we can’t ever give up on each other because if one fails or falls short of their expectation does that failure effect that soldier and soon, is affecting the entire squad. So when one falls short, the rest of us should be ready to pick them up almost immediately or better yet, catch them as they fall. That way, they feel that sense of brotherhood and partnership and now, the teamwork just got better.…
These three forces were handed a task to capture Aidid and his top advisors. Tasks such as a ground convoy, perimeter defense, and airlift entry/exit were divided among the three groups. When one of the black hawk helicopters arrived at the site where Aidid was believed to be, it was struck by a rocket propelled grenade, or RPG. The ground convoy team rushed to the crash site but found it difficult to maneuver the tight streets and road blocks that Somalis prepared. During this period, a second black hawk was struck and went down at a different crash site. The convoy team was instructed to head to the second site after extracting survivors form the first…
This is a movie about the Battle of Mogadishu or commonly known as Black Hawk down. It started on the 3rd of October with what was supposed to be a quick “snatch and grab” operation. The operation was only to last thirty minutes. Under the command of Capt. Mike Steele they were to insert soldiers to capture two top lieutenants of a warlord Mohamed Farrrah Aidid. Things went terribly wrong when a black hawk was shot down by an RPG (rocket propelled grenade). It then became a rescue mission to save the soldiers from the crash site. The next thing they knew there were hundreds of Somali gunmen. They were now fighting for their lives. In the process of fighting their way to the crash site another black hawk was shot down. Now Rangers and Delta Force were fighting their way to two crash sites. In the process they secure the first crash site and are blocked in almost every direction. At a certain point in time two Delta Force snipers volunteered to cover the second crash site until a convoy could help get the downed pilot CW4 Michael Durant and in turn gave their lives defending him. They fought through the night facing thousands of militia, women and children. On the morning of the second day they secured the second crash site while the pilot CW4 Durant was captured. Then was the move to get out of the city alive. A convoy made up of UN and 10th Mountain Div. were to extract the injured soldiers. With not enough room in the vehicles the remaining soldiers had to get out of the city on foot. Running through the city running low on ammunition and energy they made it to the stadium in the UN Safe Zone.…

Out of the books I read American Sniper is the best one. It’s a book about action and love. It starts off with the young Chris Kyle riding broncos. He decided to go into the army after he saw how bad the nation was becoming. During training he met the love of his life and made a lot of friends. This book is a good read and I recommend it to all readers.…
The essay opens (apart from the retelling of a debate the author had with a friend of his) with a bleak portrayal of prisoners performing backbreaking work in the sweltering heat, with their bodies barely standing the crushing weight of the work. (Sanders, 324) The men are forced onward by shotgun-wielding guards. This is a metaphor for the situation of most of the men the author knows growing up, as he describes several instances of men working tiring jobs their entire lives, only for their bodies to give out on them. The shotguns at their backs represent the bills to pay and the families to support. (325) The author gives the lone exception of the soldiers he knew as a boy, but acknowledges that they too suffered under burdens; those of boredom, and the very real threat of deployment and death in wars they had no say in nor part in the starting of. As the author puts it, the bleak nature of men is “killing themselves or preparing to kill others.”(Sanders, 327)…
(5)Near the end of the story, the theme becomes apparent, that is because even with the losses and Martin, (one of the only few that made it back from no mans land who managed to crawl back into the trenches)the regiment did not reach their objective but instead just got mowed down.(6) As wounded Martin attempted to get back inside his trench, he describes that he sees on the way back “Again and again he passed…
Summer, 1942 a group of citizen soldiers would embark on an adventure none would soon forget. Coming from all walks of life they all came together in Camp Toccoa, Georgia, where they would endure the most intense training of their lives; not only was it intense but these brave Easy Company men, of the506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101at Airborne Division trained under the toughest officer imaginable Lt. Sobel. Luckily enough, Lt. Winters who was well liked by all the enlisted men had their backs. Each of these volunteer paratroopers would say later, who were also the first of their kind; that though he was not well liked; Lt. Sobel would give them the best training of their lives, they were in tiptop shape.…

These men fight many battles throughout the Vietnam War. In the book and real life men go through what all the characters in The Things They Carried did. They lived the life of depression, PTSD and withdrawal from drugs. The burdens that they went through were as real as it gets and the fact that Norman Bowker committed suicide shows how difficult the Vietnam War really was and how the social expectations put on these men broke them…
Mark Bowden was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 17, 1951, and graduated from Loyola University of Maryland in 1973 with a B.A. in English literature. He then went on to write for The Philadelphia Inquirer from 1979 to 2003, and has also written for The New Yorker, Men's Journal, The Atlantic, Sports Illustrated, and Rolling Stone. He has written about a wide variety of topics and subjects from football, to war, to someone finding one million dollars cash, to drug lords; however he has written the most about war with his books Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War, Our Finest Day: D-Day, Guests of the Ayatollah: The First Battle in America's War with Militant Islam, and The Finish: The Killing of Osama Bin Laden. Many people enjoy his style of writing with these books because they are very accurate on the accounts and he tells the story in the point of view of one soldier and makes it seem like you are in the battle and are fighting along with the soldier. In black hawk down the main soldier that you follow through the book is Staff Sergeant Matt Eversmann. The entire book you reading through his mind and hear his thoughts about everything that is going on, from the basic training drills, to the point where all hell breaks loose and everything goes wrong. The novel starts off with the U.S. Army Rangers and Delta force going out on a practice mission over the town of Mogadishu in Somalia, North Africa. Sgt. Eversmann describes what it is like to fly in a Black Hawk up the coast of North Africa. Something that stood out to me was the fact that many of the soldiers during this time seemed to be overly confident to the point of being cocky, and I think that this played a big part in the downfall. They described themselves as being unstoppable, invincible, and indestructible. After going through the test run they go back to base they get a call from an informant telling them that there is a meeting between some of the top men on their radar that they want to either…

As Peter McWilliams said; "Guilt is our anger directed at ourselves - at what we did or did not do". Our lives and those of others are greatly influenced by the decisions that we make. When our mistakes cause others to suffer, we tend to feel guilty and resent ourselves. Our conscious constantly aggravates us until we act to redeem ourselves and set right. This is proven in Khaled Hosseini’s book The Kite Runner, Roger Allers’ movie Lion King and Chester Bennington’s song What I’ve Done. Disappointment leads people into quitting themselves and others, but later the recognition of their faults guides them to take hold of their responsibilities and see them to their fulfillment.…
