He greets the couple at door; Joe introduces Missey May and Otis. With slick remarks from Otis trying to flirt with Missy May, the couple eat their dessert and leave. Otis continues to flirt with Missy may which eventually leaves them caught in the bed together one night while Joe comes home from work. Jill Lepore’s article “Richer and Poorer” talks about effective methods of making an argument and persuading an audience; these techniques can be seen in Barbara Ehrenreich’s novel Nickel and Dimed. To start, Lepore presents two different paths an author can choose when writing as she claims, “Some people make arguments by telling stories; other people make arguments by counting things” (Lepore 9). Telling a story allows an author to convey his ideas through complex plots and characters; furthermore, he or she can induce pathos to appeal to emotion. A narrative is a subtle piece of work that can have an immense impact on millions of readers since the individuals can resonate with the characters and do not feel that the writer is forcing them…

    Dollar Bill Dbq

One of the reasons of why the dollar bill represents why the Indian Removal Act was enforced was because of Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was nothing more than an idea or belief that was popular in the 19th century. This belief was surrounded by Christianity. The belief was that the US was chosen by God to have land/resources. This relates to the dollar bill because it says: “In God We Trust”. The Native Tribes were being swept away and the white settlers believed that it was right for them to be swept away because they didn't believe in god. Their decisions were easier to justify because God was on their side. Manifest destiny was religion plus nationality. If you take your religion and say that you are chosen by god, it turns religion…

According to Ehrenreich, people who work jobs that are subsidized almost entirely by tips should be either paid more to begin with or offered more services such as housing and food like European countries do. For example, the typical 10% tip is considered borderline excessive at table service restaurants because waiters and waitresses are already paid substantially. Also, it is common especially in Mediterranean countries for the 10-15% service charge to already be included in the prices displayed on the menu. As it becomes harder for someone to sustain a comfortable lifestyle off of tipping in America, this may be something the government will look into adopting.…

During English class, I read a story called “ A Rupee earned” by I.F Bulatkin. When I was reading this story, the experience made me feel like I am the son in the story. In the story, the son is a very lazy person which never done the work before and doesn’t know the value of hard earned money. He was told by his father if he can earn one rupee, he can take care all of his father's inheritance. He thinks is very easy to earn one rupee. Just like me, I’ve been very lazy throughout my life. If I wanted something, I will just ask my mom for it. One day she said “ If you want something, you have to work for it.” , then I try to do all the work she told me to do, but I keep procrastinating just like the son in the story.…

Discrimination can come in all shapes and sizes. It can happen in everyday life and also in the work place. A lot of discrimination comes from ignorance, uneducated, stereotypes, and fear. These things do not excuse the behavior but are clearly things that can be changed. Some of these behaviors come from learned traits as a child and embedded in us in our upbringing. The community and media play a big part as well. The peers we surround ourselves with also influence us more then we may think. When something is different then what we are used to, the unknown scares us and placing prejudice in the place of the fear makes it easier to cope with. At which point this leads to discrimination to different degrees.…
