Birches Tone
As many people age at least one thought has came across about going back in time to a carefree young you right? In the poem “Birches”, by Robert Frost, he portrays a child being carefree and being jovial to being an adult that wants to go back to his childhood. The author presents a hopeful tone through the use of imagination, details, and imagery to help picture what Robert is talking about. Also its theme about escaping the rationality, of the adult world, if only for a moment. The first writing style in “Birches” is imagery. A example is him describing the experience of pushing through life like a “pathless wood where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs broken across it, and one eye is weeping” on line 44-46. The imagery of the text are all metaphors for the slings and arrows of life and its hardship. To add on this might be a way for Robert’s character to say his life is now filled with responsibilities and his missing the times were he didn't have to worry about so many things. Another example is when his character says “ so was I once myself a swinger of birches and so I dream of going back to be” on lines 41-42. The …show more content…
As Robert continues to talk about the boy he is having trouble swinging on trees but the boy starts to get better about swinging trees over time. Also Robert gives details on how this is happening “He always kept his poise to the top branches. Climbing carefully with the same pains you use to fill a cup” lines 35-37. He keeps his “his poise”, meaning he stays balanced and clam. Also once the boy keeped trying he learned not to harm himself because he learns how to lower the tree low enough “Then he flung outward, feet first, with a swish kicking his way down through the air to the ground” lines 39-40. This relates to the theme because as a adult you can't just go and climb a tree without some looking at you funny so having the imagination of being free and being young can bring up good
