Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk Sparknotes
Many times a book or a movie may have something or somethings going on during the story besides the story itself. A plot twist or theses behind the main idea or character of the story may happen and that may change the entire meaning or way you see, read, and think about the story itself. Have you ever watched or read, a movie, book, or a magazine and noticed a contrast between multiple topics? The things that people, like myself tend to notice many times is the realistic and fantasy ideas and topics that support a main idea or topic. Many stuff such as their surroundings, things happening, and also the issues happening around someone's country, life, or the whole world may be the cause of those types of ideas and that may have an important …show more content…
Billy's and the Bravos weren't the only ones who had things happening to them since the book also would talk plenty about the citizens around them. The story Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk is a story that makes and helps people understand the effects that a war may have and what may happen to the survivors and soldiers after it. Reality and fantasies about this book may be about many different things such as war, actions, love, and thoughts. In my point of view, I believe that the story shows the differences between the citizen’s perspective of war than the perspective of the people that actually have been there such as the soldiers like Billy and the Bravos. It always may indicate the way we talk about war, then how it really is by the way Billy explained since he actually experienced war. In some occasions people see those types of people as soldiers then heroes then tend to see them as celebrities while at the end of the day they treat them as just like any other ordinary person once they get tired of them or when they tend to over the fact that they put their lives as risk for their people and country no matter the consequences that that may have or bring to …show more content…
When he came back, he noticed how different things are there in his hometown and the city compared to the war zone in Iraq. For example, the people in Iraq were cautious and scared about the war as well as the bravos and Billy rather than in the U.S. and Texas to be more exact the people were all happy, calm, and proud that their soldiers came back safely and secured. Another thing that Billy had noticed was that he noticed how famous and popular he had got just by being in the war. For example when it says, “Dam irritating look over at the television and see yourself staring at yourself on the Tube.” (Ben Fountain 273) In the story, when they come back they are given an opportunity to go into the field in halftime to get a recognition for their hard work and actions in Iraq. At that point was when reality really hit him since he used to be just a bad boy at his school and then next thing you know he is on television and being called a “hero” by his fellow citizens. In addition, war changed the viewpoint he had for soldiers and the way he thought about then since they’re the ones risking their lives for people they don't even know and for their country just to not be worth it and to not get appreciated at the end of the day after their little

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk is a novel written by Ben Fountain, which illustrates the disconnect between war and the citizens of the United States. Sacrifices he, and every other soldier of war, made included his family life, friends, education and physical and mental health. Billy was shot several times, in the shoulder by Abdul (the Turkish sniper), and at least once more in the leg leaving him with an on-going injury. Sacrifice is a trait of war that cannot be avoided by any soldier, however another characteristic they couldn’t do without was mateship. Mateship was an important value to have in war. Billy would have had to have a close relationship with his 2 spotters, Tom Sheehan and Ion Idriess - a sniper needed to work closely with his spotters to achieve the objective set.…

An example of this is when True Son almost escapes to visit Corn Blade. The author writes “the unseen valleys, the unforded streams, the untrodden forest and the great shaggy, unclimbed mountain.” I can clearly see all of these things in my head. The movie also introduces Shenandoah and changes the plot completely. I personally do not enjoy romance movies, therefore, I did not like this change. The ending of the book also left you thinking. I like books that don’t tell you exactly what happened to the characters. You get to make up your own ending, and that’s why I think the book The Light in the Forest is better than the…

The comical, semi-autobiographical and prejudicial play written by Neil Simon, Biloxi Blues, captured my attention years ago. This play was actually the sequel to Simon’s, Brighton Beach Memoirs, however, it isn’t necessary to have seen or read the first of the sequel, but the play does pick up or continue with the main character and others heading to boot camp. For me, born into a military family, and then marrying a retired military man, the choice to read and write about this play was quite easy for me. The military stories shared throughout the years of my life made this two-act play comfortable to follow. From the beginning of the play, the characters draw the reader into the experiencing they are currently facing. Over the course of my analysis of this play, the plot, characters, theme, diction, music, spectacle, and convention will…

“It ain’t whatcha write, it’s the way atcha write it.” (Jack Kerouac). Many things can make a story interesting, the context is not always the most important. The way a writer tells the story is often what hooks the reader, by creating intriguing and eventful dialogue that attracts the reader. Bundles of information can be helpful in giving the reader insight to the characters life. However that information can only keep a reader attracted for so long as the reader desires a dramatic or traumatic event to occur.…

To illustrate I have watched movies after reading the book and have been very dissatisfied with the results. The interview that Michael Meyers has with Billy Collins about the writing of this poem gives a person insight to what the author was thinking about as he wrote this poem. Mr. Meyer asks Mr. Collins about the images in the poem, he feels that they are of a photojournalistic quality, and he asks Mr. Collins “isn’t a picture better than a thousand words?” The response that is given is that he wanted to” avoid moralistic antiwar rhetoric”, so he stuck with the visual aspects of a war zone. (Collins, 2005, p. 942)…

We all have have something that symbolizes us. It could be a symbol for a certain religion like a cross. It can also give us directions. Without symbols life would be hard. Well, books have symbolism too. Authors use symbolism to represent things in their stories and novels. The Outsiders is a book about a gang of greasers that get into trouble when one of them kills a Soc. The greasers get into a mess and it is very kaotic. The Fellowship of the Ring is about a group of nine people sent on a quest to destroy the ring of power. The fellowship faces hard obstacles like trolls, orcs, black riders, and many more. Both The Outsiders and The Fellowship of the Ring may have many differences but they have similar themes…
