As a child Betsey was enrolled in many dance classes, which is were she has gotten her inspiration and love for costumes. “I am basically about a ballerina torso and a full skirt,” she told a reporter for the Soho News in 1982, “a dancing school dress-up craziness.”

Betsey's successful because she is truly one of a kind. A few words to describe Betsey signature designs are crazy, funky, wild, different, original, colorful and energetic.

In 2002 Betsey was inducted into the Fashion Walk of Fame.
