She never wanted a job, because she thought her art career was going to bloom out of nowhere. It seemed like she would spend money on art supplies when her kids were hungry, wearing dirty clothing, or being very cold. She thought her artwork made the house better for everyone, and would ‘perk’ it up. “Since Mom had more paintings than we had wall space, Dad nailed long shelf brackets to the wall, and she hung one picture in front of another until they were three or four deep. Then she’d rotate the paintings. “Just a little redecorating to perk the place up,” she’d say. But I believed she thought of her paintings as children and wanted them to feel that they were all being treated equally.”(Walls 154) Instead of fixing the house, instead of buying better clothes or better beds for her children, she’s buying art supplies to paint pictures so her artwork can ‘perk the place up’. It’s not helping in the least. Her postive thinking about her painting’s, about having to perk the place up doesn’t help her or her children at…

Myra must have experienced neurotic anxiety in the presence of her husband’s “authority” as she previously must have experienced unconscious feelings of destruction against her parents because of fear of punishment, so she exaggerates her cleanings and frequently portrays herself as a martyr who does so much for others and asks so little for herself, when in reality she usually over sees the cleaning and tells others what to do, and her husband or children help her. This same neurotic anxiety makes her aggressive towards her neighbor as once grass went flying into her garden from her neighbor’s while mowing; and as a result Myra threw a fit and did not talk to the neighbor for two years. Myra displays a disturbing pattern of establishing relationships and then ending them by being rude. She sometimes criticizes people to their faces, or she just stops calling them. Moreover, this neurotic anxiety makes her concerned about spending money and she refrains from expending it despite being middle class and really not poor. As a defense mechanism, Myra has developed an anal fixation, which manifests in her obsession with neatness and orderliness.…

In both the novel “Things Fall Apart” and real life we face choices and consequences. Sometimes we make choices that will benefit us and others around us but sometimes we make mistakes that can affect our whole entire life. Blaise Pascal says in “Pensées” “In each action we must look beyond the action at our past, present, and future state, and at others whom it affects, and see the relations of all those things. And then we shall be very cautious.” And maybe if we are very cautious, we will make the right choices and have fewer…

At some point in our life we all have, everyone has been the outcast at least once. In my life I have seen the good decisions people make to be accepted and I have seen the dark side of it as well. New schools and new kids can mean making a lot of changes to try and fit in as I discovered with my best friend. Schools in different areas have very different groups of people and some people change a lot to fit in at that new school. That can mean some bad decisions at times and the loss of old friends as you become a new person. In order to fit in at this new school my friend made some very downhill choices with his life. It started with the occasional night of drinking or smoking. Next thing before any of us could do anything he had quit football and quit his job quit going to class for the most part. Spent most of his time either getting drunk or getting high with his new friends at his new school. Sometimes in the journey to be accepted something you forget about the places where you already a part of something and without realizing it you can throw a lot away. You can lose a lot in the process of trying to get somewhere else. He made new friends but in doing that he lost the family he had a work. He Went from an aspiring student with honours and a league mvp to being basically nothing. He no longer had any involvement with anything and he lost everything he had going for him. By the time he was seventeen he had woken up in jail four or five times and been to rehab twice with no success. Everyone who originally accepted him had given up including his family. He went from having everything he could want to having nothing in his life. That was his decisions though everyone in life will make decisions to get where they think they want to be as a person sometimes that is not a great place but there's nothing you can do if you aren't the one making the…

There is a clear divide within the house on 1503 Nottinghill Drive. My mother, Lisa, married to my father, Allen, effects everyone around her. My mother enjoys the safety inside her comfort zone and would rather bury herself in her electronics than spend a night out. By contrast, my father enjoys living life on the edge. His escape from our boring life comes twenty-six feet long and floats on water. The house, two stories, made of stucco and bricks, stands out from the rest. The house may look normal on the outside; however, within, chaos. The previous owners did not properly place the floors down and the cabinets, filled with disorganized and miscellaneous items. My father filled two of the rooms with unneccasary items, which decrease the value of the home. I felt proud to call my house my home. However, feelings change all the time.…

Through the mistakes people make, I learn life's most valuable lessons. My friends understood my philosophy but they saw me as soulless for seeing people’s mistakes as good. As a child, I watched the mistakes my relatives made within their families, which caused their children to be taken into custody. Although I felt sorry for the family at the time, I made sure I used their mistakes to direct my path. I never would want my family to be at a continuous feud. To me, not making mistakes is the biggest mistake one can make. My parents, especially, made many errors that resulted in them not being as successful. Therefore, I dream to obtain a profitable career and live an accomplished life so I won't encounter the same potholes people around me fell…
