Bernard Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York on 8 September 1941 to Eli and Dorothy Sanders. His father is of Polish decent and immigrated to the United States when he was 17, with little education and money. Bernie once graduated moved to Vermont which is situated in the North Eastern part of the United States, there he worked in carpentry and documentary filmmaker. 1981 saw the start of his ever growing political career, he was elected as the mayor of Burlington, the largest city in Vermont, this was won with a mere 10 votes.
Bernie leadership as mayor helped make Burlington become one of the most livable small cities in America, he also helped make the city make some major improvements towards affordable housing, progressive
