Dana Gioia offers convincing argument on the importance of reading, which has been dramatically declining for decades. In fact, an ability to read critically is fundamental for social interactions, range of thinking and even sustainability of society. To build the argument profoundly, author uses variety of facts and studies, personal anecdote and conclusions.…
Reality is that reading is like a food for our brain if we will not fed our brain it won't survive any longer. The human brain's structure is a very complicated still being under exploration compare to other creatures living on the earth were able to think analysis and act with purpose. Later they found some ways to express themselves on very different kinds of material that they could save for future generations thus starting to create human history. The human brain ability doesn’t know any limits and the history can be a witness of that fact. Now it is our responsibility to continue the job which our ancestors started and passed through generations with improvements and explorations. Despite of the presence of high technology and the use of the internet we should continue very pleasurable and useful practice which is the key to our future. We should write and read and continue to create and save it for future generation, educate and develop this ability to our children and we should create our self image, in other words continue to be…
People nowadays are reading less because of technology and its ease of use. When people want something, they want it fast and on the spot. That’s why technology is such a huge influence on today’s culture. With technology, everything is so much easier to access. It could take you seconds to pull up a movie on your phone with today’s technology. Less Americans result to reading, in fact, "according to one recent study 55 percent of Americans spend less than thirty minutes reading anything at all."(14) Reading is important and people need to be reading…
When there were no televisions or computers, reading was a primary leisure activity. People would spend hours reading books , traveling to far away lands in their minds. With time, people have lost their skill and passion to read as there are many other exciting and thrilling options available these days, aside from books. And that is a shame because reading offers a productive approach to improving vocabulary and word power, it helps to learn things that are not taught in school or by a teacher. Reading magazines and newspapers daily informs us with what is going on in the outside world or in the community we live in.…
People are living in a world where new technological advances have replaced the desire to read. Reading, in my opinion, has become less important to many adults and children. Some children and teenagers prefer to watch a movie or playing video games instead of reading a book. Some adults prefer to watch television than to read a good novel. Reading, in some people’s agenda, is not as important as it used to be like in the early 1900’s. To some people watching a movie or basketball game on television is more important than reading a book…
People naturally learn at least one language to communicate with others, but they do not automatically learn how to read. Reading has to be learned and taught intentionally because people will not be able to read if they do not learn how to read. Teaching to read is, hence, significant to be carried out as early as possible. Some previous studies have proven that reading is essential. It can enhance people’s social skills, improve hand-eye coordination, and provide people with endless hours of fun and entertainment. It is an access to social, economic, and civic life (Clark & Akerman, 2006) and an underlying means of supporting the success of learning process (Broaddus & Ivey, 2001; Renandya, 2007). It also has positive influence on academic performance (Adetunji and Oladeji, 2007). Without the ability to read, therefore, the opportunities for academic and occupational success are limited.…

Personally, I love to read biographies of great men, especially, those who, through the exercise of their mental abilities, rose from almost nothing to enviable great heights in life. Be they blacks or whites, I have come to discover, in most cases, that the knowledge such people caught through books was the fundamental resource that empowered them to magnify their lives, multiply the ways in which they lived, making their lives full, phenomenal and interesting (Carson 1992). From every confirmation, most of them bagged assorted certificates. However, certificates were not the motivating factor that spurred them to read books in such manner that transformed them into great assets. Rather, they read books primarily for self-discovery and acquisition of useful knowledge, which they appropriated and applied in their daily lives. The books they read and they manner in which they read them served to strengthen, refine and ennoble their characters, giving them prized places in the affairs of life. Such door of strength and exploits in the affairs of life is still open to any person that musters the discipline to cultivate a good reading habit!…
Reading is the essential element of any individual to succeed in life, the development of the brain is nourished of what we read and many students have problems reading and understanding correctly, that is why the connection between school and what students do at home is important. Any good writer knows about the impact that reading can have on his/her work, as well as that in order to be able to fully understand and digest a piece of literature, one should follow the basic guidelines of active reading, the type of reading where a reader subjects a writing to a critical analyze by using different types of reading techniques (Stubbs, Barnet, and Cain, 2). However, every reader, just like every writer, has his/her own style of reading that is composed of or is guided by a combination of different standard techniques set by active reading. Navigated by the guidelines of active reading, a reader can experience a book as a whole, without missing any important parts or ideas, while at the same time have an opportunity to establish a writer’s persona and subject his/her work to critical thinking.…
Not very many people other than teenagers would deny that kids become more self-centered when they become teenagers. They become more concerned with spending quality time with their friends and less concerned with spending quality time with their family. They become more obsessed with the celebrity world and less interested in the real world. And they convince themselves that no one has ever faced an identity crisis like they have and that no one understands.…
Kids who read often and widely get better at it. This is pretty much just common sense. After all, practice makes perfect in almost everything we humans do and reading is no different.…
Villamin (1999) considers reading as an essential key that unlocks the door to the world of enlightenment and enjoyment and the basic tool for learning in the content field. The absence of reading skill will greatly affect an individual’s adjustment in life.…

The reading has many importance or effect on our life, first, it is the best way to collect information about anything that you want to know such as yesterday, the teacher told me that I should talk about Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft, so I had to know information about him and for that I collected information by reading it from Wikipedia site, that was an example for the importance of reading for collecting information. The second importance of reading, the scientists said that it is useful for mind, because it develops the mind is muscle, also it is developing the imagination for example when you read a story or when someone tell you what happen in the road while he was walking there, your mind is imagining that. Another importance of reading that when you reading something, you feel confident. Reading is related with knowledge because reading gives you knowledge by reading things you know things. Reading is useful for many things, its use to study for the first year in high school until becoming something like a teacher, doctor or anything that he wants. Also it is used for pleasure such as stories, novels and poems. There is another thing that we use reading for knowing information Like newspaper and television news. Also we all are reading thing in every day, always we are reading things when we are seeing things while we are walking and when we buy things, So reading is one of the most important things in our life , everything is reading. Reading was known and it will be known as a source of knowledge and pleasure. There is so much information to know or learn, so we never finish with reading. For me reading is so important, I am reading books or magazine more than television is, because the television hurts the eyes , but reading books not hurt the eyes it also good for your mind and it develop your thought and thinking, there…
