On one side of the argument, Matthews argues that college is not for everyone. Some people might succeed in life without a college degree. However, I agree that college is beneficial. What I have learned in college so far has already opened my mind to some of life's realities and new perspectives. With the system that is in place throughout your first 13 years of school, you do not really learn about the role you play in the world. Memorization and facts are valued over critical thinking and evaluation. In college, you really learn how to use your mind to critically look at the world and question things. In simple words, college makes you aware and that is something that is extremely important in life. You also get the chance to interact with professionals in the field of your choice which gives you connections. College gives you the tools necessary for a better life.
