It was a subject titled ‘Introduction to Nursing Assessment’ that inspired my desire to work within the health sector. Throughout my nursing career up until this point I have not thought about way I practice nursing the way I do. I have always been a caring person. A nurse that is always willing to help anyone that required my assistance. Always going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure my patient is taken care of. These are some of the reasons why I became a nurse. My style of nursing has not changed over the semester but I was made to think about and develop my personal philosophy of nursing. To provide holistic care, applying the concept of caring, health, environment, being the patients advocate and making sure the patient receives the best care possible to promote optimal health within their environment. The patient must be the nurse’s…

I helped look after him for the two years he was diagnosed and it was during that time, I knew where my heart was and that was nursing. With my own experience of being in and out of hospital with two complicated pregnancies, I was in awe of the nurses and midwives who did everything they could to make me feel secure and safe, I was inspired and made an already certain career choice, even more evident.…
