1) Before moving the balloon, how many positive and negative signs are on the balloon?
4 positive and 4 negative
2) Use your mouse pad to rub the balloon against the sweater.
-What are the charges that are NOW found on the balloon? All the sweaters negative charges are on the balloon and the balloon is sticking to the sweater.

-What are the charges now found on the sweater? Just a bunch of positive charges no negative any more

-What happens when you let go of the balloon? It sticks to the sweater.

3) Take your

It is stopped because same charges repel.

-Why did the charges on the wall move the way they did after the balloon touched the wall? Because they were being repelled by the negative charges on the balloon.

4) Now, reset the balloons, chose the icon that has the yellow and green balloons together on it, and press the button that removes the wall.

5) Using the yellow balloon, rub half of the positive charges off of the sweater.

6) Then, using the green balloon, rub the other half of the positive charges off of the sweater.
-What happens when you try to touch these two balloons together after rubbing off of the charges? They repel each other because of all the negative charges.

-Put both balloons as far away from the sweater as you can (in the area where the wall use to be). Let go of the balloons. How do the balloons react to each other? They slowly move towards the sweatshirt.

-Why do the balloons act the way they do in the last question? Because all the negative charges are attracted to the positive charges on the sweater.

A charged object will attract an uncharged object until they touch, and then they will repel one another. When charged objects attract uncharged objects, such as when the negatively charged plastic comb or fur attracted the paper, the negatively charged comb/fur repelled some of the electrons in the paper. This results in a redistribution of charges in the paper so that one side is more negative than the other side. The net effect is that the paper is attracted to the comb/fur. This also applies to the balloon attracting an uncharged wall. When a charged object is placed near an uncharged object, its charges rearrange themselves. In other words, those charges attracted to the charged object move towards the charged object and those charges repelled move away. This effect is known as polarization.…

NEGATIVE CHARGE Think If a piece of gold is rubbed with a piece of wool, which object loses electrons Explain using the electrostatic series. The wool is at the top of the electrostatic series so will lose electrons and have a positive charge. The gold is lower on the electrostatic series so gold will gain electrons and have a negative charge. If a piece of gold is rubbed with a piece of wool, the wool loses electrons. The gold gains electrons. Wool is an electron giver and gold is an electron taker. Name one substance that will get a negative charge when rubbed on ebonite. Copper, rubber or gold Name one substance that will get a positive charge when rubbed on ebonite. acetate, glass, wool or human hair One piece of glass is rubbed with silk. A second piece of glass is rubbed with a rubber balloon. What will be the charge on both pieces of glass The glass will have a positive charge when rubbed with either silk or rubber. Which piece of glass will have a stronger charge and explain why. The glass rubbed with rubber will have a stronger positive charge because rubber and glass are further apart on the…

When the balloon is blown up and expanded, the rubber stretches causing the shape to differ from the original. Under this condition, the balloon can withstand a very high elastic energy pressure. When the balloon that has expanded is poked by a sharp object, the balloon explodes and splits into rubber fragments. This phenomenon is caused by the hole on the surface of the rubber, which expands and forms a long slit. The bursting balloon which creates the small hole then stretches into a long slit, requires a small amount of elastic potential energy that has been stored by the balloon. The rest of the remaining energy is transformed…

The high electric field near the comb D, ionizes the air due to action of points, the negative charges in air move towards the needles and positive charges are repelled on towards the belt. These positive charges stick to the belt, moves up and reaches near the comb E. As a result of electrostatic induction, the comb acquires negative charge and the sphere acquires positive charge. The acquired positive charge is distributed on the outer surface of the sphere. The high electric field at the comb E ionizes the air. Hence, negative charges are repelled to the belt, neutralizes the positive charge on the belt before the belt passes over the pulley. Hence the descending belt will be left…
