CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1 Statement of the problem
The statement of the study is “Harassment faced by the students of IUB”.
1.2 Objectives of research study
1. To analyze the interest of students in mathematics.
2. To find out factors that affect interest of students in mathematics.
3. To find out ways and techniques to develop interest of students in mathematics.
1.3 Research Questions
1. What is the interest of students in Mathematics at secondary level in Bahawalpur District?
2. What are the factors that affect the interest of students in Mathematics at secondary level in Bahawalpur District?
3. How we develop the interest of students in Mathematics at secondary level in Bahawalpur District?
1.4 Significance of the study
The result of the study shows that a commitment to improving student interest will be linked to an improvement in student success and understanding. The true understanding needs to be emphasized more in every grade, rather than memorization and procedures. Students need depth more than breadth. The reality is, many topics get covered so quickly and poorly that students often are forced to relearn material over and over again. If each topic were concentrated on and taught for understanding the first time, students would have more interest toward mathematics. I found through oral interview that most students really do want to understand Mathematics. A lack of understanding seems to promote the decline of student interest toward mathematics. Mathematical knowledge is useful to understand and interpret matters such as income-tax, graphs, maps etc. Major discoveries are possible in the world only because of Mathematics. The findings of the study shows that majority of respondents have interest in Mathematics.

1.5 Delimitation of the study
The study was delimited to The Islamia University of Bahawalpur Baghdad campus.
