For example, the student might not take the vigorous class because its value is equivalent to the standard class. This makes students think that they might as well take the easier class and have better chances of getting an A. This is discouraging to them to take the class because their class rank might become lower and think it’s unfair because they chose to challenge themselves in the harder class. Next, the weighted graded encourages students to put more effort to study to receive the higher GPA. If a student gets a B in an honors class the class becomes a 4.0, like getting an A in a standard class. This would encourage students to try to get the A, because if they don’t get A, and they don’t receive the perk of a 5.0 for taking the honors class. Finally, honors classes encourage students by taking advantage of their education. Students can take advantage of their education by taking their favorite subject class on high scale level, making them learn more about their subject. For the most part, honors classes motivate students because of the higher GPA, their class rank, and by making more of their

Long Beach Island is a barrier island located approximately one mile off of the southern coast of New Jersey. The island in some areas is only a half-mile wide, with some areas, which are even narrower. Therefore, coastal erosion and flooding are both major concerns for the residents. Most of the island’s eighteen miles of beaches have experienced significant damage from erosion in recent decades. The damage is not only threatening the multimillion dollar homes in the area, but others also believe that the island will eventually become one with the Atlantic Ocean. However, in 2005 the Army Corps of Engineers began work on a $75 million dollar project to build a dune the length of the island. To analyze the severity of beach erosion on Long Beach Island, the following report compares the conditions to the Grand Strand off the coast of South Carolina. Both areas are experiencing many negative factors, which are contributing to the deterioration of the sandy beaches. The conclusion points to the fact that however short-term beach replenishment may be; it is the most viable option to solve the current devastation of beach erosion.…

Carolina High School, located in Greenville County, was established in 1956 as a 9th through 12th grade public high school. In 1995, the school was chosen to be a magnet school where at its peak had a student enrollment of over 1300. When the needs of the community changed and local mills closed, the dynamics of the community changed, dropping enrollment down by several hundred students. By 2000, the average family income was just above $22,000, where a little over 9% of the families were reported by the 2000 Census as earning less than $15,000 per year. Due to the changes in the surroundings of the school, the school suffered from great challenges. In a location stricken by poverty, the enrollment in 2008 was a little over 700 students with over 80% of the population being minority and served by the free and reduced lunch…

In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court landmark decision Brown v. Board of Education found that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. Throughout the United States, communities had varying reactions to school desegregation running the gamut from acceptance to resistance. After failing to desegregate on their own, the schools in Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada were compelled by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to act. As a result, they created the Sixth-Grade Center Plan of Integration to desegregate the elementary schools within the district. The plan required children to be bussed to the Westside (the black community) for one year during sixth grade. All other years, the children from the black community were bussed to the white schools. To determine the community perceptions of the school desegregation efforts in Las Vegas data including interview transcripts from local activists, newspaper articles and audio interviews were reviewed.…
