"Everyone is aware of the difficult and menacing situation in which human society - shrunk into one community with a common fate - finds itself, but only a few acts accordingly. Most people go on living their everyday life: half frightened, half indifferent, they behold the ghostly tragicomedy this is being performed on the international stage before the eyes and ears of the world. But on that stage, on which the actors under the floodlights play their ordained parts, our fate of tomorrow, life or death of the nations, is being decided. It would be different if the problem were not one of things made by man himself, such as the atomic bomb and other means of mass destruction equally menacing all peoples. It would be different, for instance, if an epidemic of bubonic plague were threatening the entire world. In such a case conscientious and expert persons would be brought together and they would work out an intelligent plan to combat the plague. After having reached agreement upon the right ways and means, they would submit their plan to the governments. Those would hardly raise serious objections but rather agree speedily on the measures to be taken. They certainly would never think of trying to handle the matter in such a way that their own nation would be spared whereas the next one would be decimated. But could not our situation be compared to one of a menacing epidemic? People are unable to view this situation in its true light, for their eyes are blinded by passion. General fear and anxiety create hatred and aggressiveness. The adaptation to warlike aims and activities has corrupted the mentality of man; as a result, intelligent, objective, and humane thinking has hardly any effect and is even suspected and persecuted as unpatriotic. There are, no doubt, in the opposite camps enough people of sound judgment and sense of justice who would be capable and eager to work out together a solution for the factual…

Throughout history every society has had their own heroes of myth and legend; from the Greek heroes of Hercules and Achilles, to the Medieval English heroes King Arthur and Lancelot, and the Early American heroes of Paul Bunyan and Daniel Boone, there have always been and there will always be heroes. Heroes are pillars of a societies values, what a society finds important is what will be found in the overall makeup of the heroes themselves. In today’s society, we have two heroes of comic book legend that stand above all others—Batman and Spider-Man.…

War has been a constantly occurring event throughout history, from the strife between Homo sapien tribes to terrorists in modern society. However, what if there was some way to achieve the same ending without contentions of war? This is what who can be assumed as brothers and pacifists, James and Christopher Collier, are trying to tell us through their novel, My Brother Sam is Dead. The example they use is the American Revolution. So many people, innocent or evil, were killed. “My Brother Sam is Dead” takes us through these events using the perspective of Tim Meeker, a young boy that watches the war completely change his life. In my Brother Sam is Dead, although multiple sides are shown, authors Collier and Collier ultimately argue that war…

There is an old saying that there is an 8-year-old child inside every person, "Transformers" is just the movie to bring out the kid in everyone. Big, loud and full of testosterone-fuelled car fantasies, Michael Bay's actioner hits a new peak for CGI work, showcasing spectacular chases and animated transformation sequences seamlessly blended into live-action surroundings. There is no longer any question whether special effects can be made more realistic but the issue is whether disposable actors can be trained to play better with blue-screens. As a child I was intrigued by the cartoon “Transformers”. My friends and I use to go around being our favorite transformer; I always wanted to be “Optimus Prime”, the leader of the Autobots. Now through the advancement in technology in film making we have a few movies made that stem from this cartoon. In this critical analysis paper we will discuss several topics that make this film a great success. While this is a fictional film the audience can still believe that it could be real because of the advancements in technology. In this action packed film it is very important to capture the audience’s attention through cinematography, storytelling that people can identify with and that intrigues the mind is very important. Secondly, by the use of multiple shots and editing the director/editors pieced together a high impact film. As for this film my strongest argument in this paper would be the use of special effects and editing in order to enhance the cinematography throughout this film. In my opinion and the opinions of other critics this movie was a huge success through all the high impact theatrics, special effects, and the quality of both physical acting and voice acting.…

A movie by Pixar, The Incredibles was very well thought of by audiences. In 2005, it won an Academy Award for "Best Animated Feature Film of the Year" beating the movies "Shark Tale" and "Shrek 2". The film starts off as an interview with three superheroes known as Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Frozone talking about why they have secret identity. They all love their role as superheroes and enjoy helping people. While the start doesn't necessarily show conflict it does provide the audience of some tension by having Elastigirl mention that she fights crime because it's typically a male only thing, and she doesn't believe that men should be the only ones able to save the world. When asked about settling down she goes on the defensive by asking "Are you kidding?". In this paper however the main relationship and conflict will be between Robert (Bob) Parr also known as Mr. Incredible and Buddy also known as Incrediboy in the first and original conflict or Syndrome in the later years of the conflicts.…

Bruce Banner, is the character that is lucky enough to represent two types of American public opinion, which portrayed through Dr. Bruce Banner himself and his alter ego the Hulk. The two types of American public opinion that is portrayed through him include the average “reluctant” citizen that is called upon to apply his intelligence to fight terrorism (Dr. Banner), while also representing an “angry” citizen that lets his anger take complete control after hearing the devastating news about the terrorist attacks (the Hulk). Hagley and Harrison claim that “Loki’s reliance on the unleashing of Banner’s alter ego to destroy S.H.I.E.L.D. is testament to one of the basic mechanisms of terrorism: to divide, to terrify, and to unleash anger and hatred that decimates the previous harmony of a group and demands revenge, which most often leads to further division and loss of life.” Banner is the classic example of human intelligence, reason and empathy versus the uncontrollable anger that lies within him. Banner is strictly asked to be a part of the Avengers team for his intelligence and gamma ray expertise to help locate the Tesseract cube only. When Iron Man says that Banner may just have to “suit up” with the rest of the Avengers team, Banner responds “I don’t get a suit of armor; I’m exposed, like a nerve…It’s a nightmare.” At the end of the movie Banner is able to somewhat control his anger and strictly direct it towards destroying Loki and the…

This classic hero was done good in this modern rendition of a very old storyline. Steve Rogers, a sickly young man turned super soldier, who wanted nothing more than to fight alongside his fellow Americans, and childhood best friend, captured the hearts of action and comic book lovers. In a perfect combonation of writing and direction, the movie ensures that the viewer falls in love with Steve Rogers before they made him into a true hero. I particularly enjoyed Steve’s character growth out of simply the good for the sake of good trope that's assigned to so many righteous characters, as they progressed his storyline and he learned more about the realities of such a brutal…
