The Developmental Counseling Form is used for a variety of reasons. The most common use of it in my case would be to evaluate my soldiers’ performance at the end of every month. A lot of planning and thinking goes into it because I have to take into consideration that whatever I decide to write would ultimately have an effect on my soldiers’ careers. Therefore, before I begin to write the evaluation, I must take notes throughout the month of how well my soldiers are performing their everyday duties. Being proactive and doing the right thing would result in a well written evaluation for them, while being late to work or having to be reprimanded for misconduct would instead reflect a poor evaluation. A variety of areas are covered in the evaluation, including not only work performance, but physical fitness as well as overall discipline. I always try to ensure that my soldier’s receive the best evaluation possible, but I also have to ensure I am being fair at the same time. Precision is vital when evaluating because I need to make each evaluation relate to that one person instead of just writing a universal version that other Sergeants tend to do. Once I gather all of my notes, I sit down and begin to fill out the counseling form. It is important for me…
