Atletico Cicero Incorporated (ACI) is a public company with December 31 fiscal year-end. In the fiscal quarter, ending September 30, 2010, it entered into a sales agreement with Elgin Maker International (EMI). Under the sales agreement, ACI is selling an assembly line system to EMI that consists of three components: Mixer Segment, Molding Segment and Packaging Segment. 130107
ACI will install the assembly line system at EMI’s Pilsen manufacturing facility, where it will be used by EMI to manufacture Elgin bars. The sales agreement between ACI and EMI provides for the following pricing:
The sales agreement is dated September 14, 2010. ACI agrees to deliver the mixer segment and molding segment to EMI by September 25, 2010, as ACI has those two components of the assembly line system on hand at the time the sales agreement is entered into. The sales agreement does not provide EMI with a general right of return for any components of the assembly line.
ACI delivers the two components of the assembly line system on September 20, 2010, and agrees to deliver the packaging segment to EMI by December 20, 2010. The delivery date for the packaging segment is delayed because ACI does not have that component on hand at the time the sales agreement is entered into. As such, ACI has to manufacture that component. Because of the backlog of orders ACI has in its manufacturing department at the time it enters into the sales agreement with EMI, it cannot commit to delivering the packaging segment to EMI until December 20, 2010. ACI actually delivers the packaging segment on December 15, 2010, and agrees to install the complete assembly line system at EMI’s Pilsen facility on January 5, 2011. ACI cannot install it sooner because its installation technicians are either otherwise committed to other customer installation orders or on vacation for

Moving forward with a new system process design dictates the need to make minor changes that will yield a significant improvement in our supply chain process. We will transition from a forecasting method of production to an agile supply chain process. Last year our on-time deliveries average 93% as the result of an inadequate supply of motors. An agile supply chain process will allow us the flexibility to be responsive to the needs of our customers and minimize the risk of shortages and disruptions of supply (Chase, Jacobs, and Aquilano,2006). Further, an agile process will eliminate much of the difficulty associated the periodic orders placed by our contractual customer. We will install mechanisms to…

Imagine being a college student, then imagine spending most of your summers since high school working on the factory floor. This job may seem monotonous to you, working day in and day out, for long hours and low pay, but it ends up teaching you to appreciate your life as a college student. It also teaches you life lessons, like the fact that some people work most of their lives in these factories. That is exactly what the author, Andrew Braaksma wrote about when he wrote "Some Lessons from the Assembly Line (Braaksma, 2005). The author's theme of "Some Lessons from the Assembly Line"(Braaksma, 2005) is to show the different lessons he learned in college while working summers in factories because these lessons taught him to appreciate his opportunity to go to college and his experiences taught him a lifelong lesson about education being possibly the best way to your career goals.…

AIC systems ( previously named Advanced Integrated Circuitry, Inc.), is a Taichung, Taiwan based manufacturing company, founded in 1992, that produces printed circuit boards ( PCBs), focusing on motherboards and graphics cards for the personal computer industry. By early 2000s, the company had evolved into an original design manufacturer (ODM) by taking active role in innovating and designing new generation components. The company relentlessly focuses on cost management and indigenous design. In 2001, the company shifted all its production volume to china that enhanced learning and provided low cost labour. In 2007, the company embarked on a new strategy to diversify its product portfolio by including mobile technology. By march 2008, they began development of QuiN 816 Netbook( an Atom-based netbook). The process involved a Koda board design and subsequent production assembly line. The major criterion for the assembly line was to have enough capacity to meet peak monthly demand. The netbooks were assembled, done with thermal test, packaged and shipped. The unexpecteddemands for the product lead to over-work. Efforts were put in for installing and operating additional assembly line. After a period of smooth operation, with expectation of further increase in demand, there is a need to find out if demanded production can be managed with existing system or another assembly line needs to be installed.…

In the article “Life on the Global Assembly Line” Barbara Ehrenreich and Annette Fuentes did a very good job of portraying what was really going on in the lives of women working in an assembly line in Third World countries. I felt like the authors were not happy about what the corporations were doing. I think that the corporations are like a hungry dog that never could be satisfied with anything. I only disagree with one little thing in their article, the term “first world” or “third world” do not exist anymore, because the cold war ended three decades ago; however, I agree with Ehrenreich and Fuentes’ argument about women being exploited in the third world countries by evil corporations by wage difference, gender inequality, and ruthless working and living conditions. If I am given a chance to own or run a multinational corporations; I would do anything to make sure no one is taken advantage of, and everyone would be treated equally, and be a role model corporation that other corporations would also do the right thing.…
