What is a team? A team is a group of people coming together to collaborate-to reach a shared goal or task. A team is a group of people with a high degree of interdependence, geared towards the achievement of a common goal or completion of a task. Team members are deeply committed to each other's growth and success. Team members share in planning, organizing, setting goals, developing strategies, and more. Team members work together by helping each other in success or failure of a project. In order to be successful, a team must be enthusiastic-it's contagious! A team must have a purpose, keep members informed, grow together, and celebrate achievements (Lompa, 2008)!
I included the following people on my team because I felt that their abilities were better fit for the task that we had to complete; although, after I finalized my selection Sarah strongly disagreed with whom I had picked. This did not bother me though, because I knew my team was solid, and that it would all work out in the end. A famous author, Bill Bethel, once said, “A successful team is a group of many hands but of one mind (Khurana, 2009).” The help I enlisted was from the following people and what positions I designated each of them: Petra- Assessor and Adviser
Maria- Controller and Organizer
Harvey- Linker and Producer
Marcell- Promoter and Maintainer
I chose to leave out both John and Janice because I felt that they might overwhelm the team. Moving on though, yes, I believe that these people were the best matches available for each role. However, Sarah would have left out Maria and Harvey and included John and Janice instead. I made these choices because I felt that they fit the descriptions of the jobs better than another candidate had. Based on each person’s description I tried to work out a game plan before even beginning this endeavor. It worked out in the end though very well. Our research turned out to be very highly rewarded. “Trust men and they will be true to you; treat them greatly, and they will show themselves great (Khurana, 2009),” was a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that inspired me to show my team what teamwork really means.
I had to consider a lot of different factors in order to manage my team both effectively and smoothly. How I organized my team was one of the biggest factors to look at. If I gave people on my team a job they could not handle then, as time progressed, the team would slowly fall apart due to people not being able to pull their own weight during the project. Throughout the project there were many obstacles that my team had to overcome. Some of them were minor things, but others had the ability to grind the whole project to a halt. Some examples of these factors are keeping in mind whom had more years of experience in the auto industry so that they did not intimidate or discourage ideas and thoughts from others who have a lot less experience. In order for a team to be a success there must always be open communications flowing from all parties. If everyone does not contribute than things will quickly deteriorate and production will come to a halt. The next thing that I was faced with was those people who were more head strong, or in other words more stubborn than the others. Sometimes their unwillingness to look at a problem or an idea from another person’s viewpoint caused a lot of undue stress...
