Assignment 206 Understand The Role Of The Social Care Worker
Assignment 206 Understand the role of the social care worker

Task A – Short Answer Questions

Ai Explain three differences between a working relationship and a personal relationship

A working relationship is with someone or a team of individuals not of your choosing. A personal relationship is with someone you like and choose to be around.
At work you are all there to do your jobs and follow the rules and codes of conducts. With personal relationships you just do what feels comfortable and have no set rules to follow.
In a working relationship it is better to try to keep your personal opinions to yourself because It is a lot easier to work if you get on and don't have differences and tensions between you. A personal relationship is a lot easier to speak your mind as the person receiving it knows you well and wont get so offended.
Aii Give two examples of different working relationships in an adult social care setting

When talking to your co workers they normally can relate because they do the same work and normally know exactly what and who you are talking about.
When talking to an agency worker or visiting doctor you would need to be more descriptive as they would not know the residents the same way you do. You would probably have to show them who the different individuals are too.
Aiii Explain why it is important that social care workers work in partnership with individuals using the service and their family.

I think it is important to work with the service users and their families as they know best what help they need and want. Communication is a very big part in helping someone and a big way in developing a relationship with them. You also have to remember that they pay a lot of money to be in the home and require and expect a level of care for that price. It is good to all work together so the resident is happy and feel they are happy with the level of care given.
The family obviously want the best for their loved one and I think its good to

The term ‘agreed ways of working’ relates to the way an employee must work and the rules that they must adhere to. As an employee you should work in a way that is clearly set out in the job description – this will then mean that you know what areas of care you would be responsible for and those that should be reported to a higher member of staff etc. The ‘agreed ways of working’ have been set out in accordance with the policies and procedures of the care organisation, for example, the health and safety policies and procedures or the safeguarding of vulnerable adults. The employee will/ should be informed about any updates that will be put in place in the policies and procedures – this will usually be passed over in handover or in a staff meeting. The policies and procedures should be regularly updated, documented in hard form i.e. on paper, kept in a file and easily accessible to all staff. Informal supervisions, for example, observations, will enable the employer to identify the employee’s strengths and weaknesses; thus proving if they are working to the ‘agreed ways’. Appraisals can be just one formal way that offers both the employee and employer the opportunity to resolve the weaknesses through discussion and suggestions can be made for improvement.…

All care workers involved with a service user must be aware of what care is needed for that person and know and understand in order to co-ordinate care efficiently. This can be done by liaising with all parties involved in providing care for the individual, eg the service users themselves this will encourage and support them to be involved in their own care, helping them maintain their skills etc. social worker, family, home care agency, meals on wheels, district nurses, GP. There is no point in a GP stating dressing needs to be changed daily and district nurses go in weekly, or the district nurses go for visit at home and the person is not there because on the day they visit they are at day care. A person may have meals on wheels every day, but then gets a place within day care for 2 days per week, meals on wheels would then need to be informed that meals will not be needed on those days, also when day care is closed for bank holidays meals on wheels would be put back in place for those days, or if home care lunch calls are normally supplied, those would be put in place, this also happens if a person does not attend day care if unwell. All these things need to be sorted out before a person attends the centre, and as much information retained as possible regarding there care. Each day we have an end of day discussion so…
