Humanities are studies that provide knowledge and critical thinking on academic studies like religion, philosophy, science and art. Religion could be exemplified as a spiritual belief and a connection between a god and gods. During the Renaissance people express their opinions and beliefs on their religion through art. Leonardo Da Vinci’s portraits illustrates an important expression of religion the god is the center of the universe. Michelangelo is another famous artist in the Renaissance and his art, he expressed a powerful love that god has for us. Pico Della Mirandola and Marcilio Ficino art shows how god created man and the power that god has game man in the Universe. Therefore, the Renaissance reveals a great of point of view how people used art to create strong meaning that religion was important and that god is the center of the universe.
One of Leonardo’s portraits illustrates how god was betrayed by Judas. The Last Super was a type of art where Leonardo describes how Jesus Christ was betrayed and how god exposed details of how the backstabber would give him up for money. “According to Matthew (26:21-23) when Christ was asked, upon announcing that one of his apostles would betray him, who the betrayer might be, he answer “He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me“(Wasserman 1). This quote emphasize how the Last Supper has a powerful meaning how Jesus has peace, courage and quality when he announced that one of his twelve disciples would betrayed him. For example, in the Last Super Leonardo Da Vinci provides every details of gestures and reactions of the twelve disciples when god announced that one of them would let down him. “Therefore, by pairing Judas spilling salt and Christ about to take the wine glass-mediated by the money bag and Judas reaching toward the dish Leonardo may have intended the spilled salt to denote the betrayer’s abrogation of the New Testament and, more significantly, the promise of redemption the Christ offered with his shed blood” (Wasserman 1). This reference illustrates how Leonardo explains through his masterpiece of art that Judas feels remorse and about the promise that Jesus would be sacrifice to save humanity from sins. Accordingly The Last Super Leonardo express his own ideas, beliefs, expression and knowledge of his point of view on religion. Another main point of The Last Super shows that Jesus Christ gave a new commandment to his twelve disciples before he was betrayed by Judas. For example, Leonardo’s painting The Last Super shows how god teach his disciples that love is blissful, pure, never perish, never selfish and courteous. “Christ John writes (13:34-35), tells the apostles “A new commandment [testament] I give unto you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another, By this shall all men known that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another (Wasserman 1). Leonardo’s portrait The Last Super shows details in appearance, texture and movement of how Jesus express a pure and enormous love to his disciples. “Only through their love of him and one another; Christ fore warns his apostles will their disciples be recognized by everyone and their evangelic mission to spread his message of salvation be accepted directly as authentic” (Wasserman 1). This quote shows how Jesus Christ wanted the world to be united and that love would guide every human to believe and discover a true full god that has a pure and enormous love for them. Therefore, the last super shows how Leonardo describes the beauty of the love of Jesus Christ to the Universe.
