Art Case Study: The Bricks By Carl Andre
1. Occasionally referred to as "The Bricks", this masterpiece is the last and most famous of a series of minimalist sculptures by Carl Andre. The exhibit comprises one-hundred-and-twenty fire bricks, arranged in two layers, in a six-by-ten rectangle. All eight structures in the series have the same height, mass and volume, but different shapes. When first exhibited at the Tate Gallery at Millbank in 1976, the piece drew much criticism in the press because of the perception that taxpayers' money had been spent on paying an inflated price for a collection of bricks. How do we better know this sculpture? 2. The name of this car brand comes from the Korean word 'hanja form', which means modernity. It was founded by Chung Ju-yung in 1947 as a …show more content…

In 1633 he added a "d", and maintained this form consistently from then on, proving that this minor change had a meaning for him. Which artist’s signature journey is this? 2. There were adventurers like Charles Lindbergh, with “The Spirit of Saint Louis”, making the first transatlantic flight and Amelia Earhart, the first woman to make a transatlantic flight. Later, airplanes were used in expeditions and, after a while, multi-engine planes were being chartered and used for expedient travel. These charters started out with private planes and their owners, putting their services up for hire. Before long, there was an industry of commercial planes providing transportation to the public for a price. Around the same time, airplanes became the new wave of transport for freight. Not long after, men felt a superiority in the skies and a kind of cockiness that domineered their aircraft. The risk envelope was pushed and the thrills escalated. Stunts were being performed like no one had ever imagined. Only the bravest of souls would do these stunts, which included walking across the wing whilst in mid-flight, and low flying races with automobiles. We observed that birds angled their wings to balance and control their bodies during flight. Utilizing their concept of "wing warping" and the movable rudder, we developed a design that had eluded all who came before them. On December 17, 1903, we succeeded in making the first free, controlled flight of a power-driven airplane. Of four flights we made that day, the longest was 59 seconds, over a distance of of 852 feet. Today, we Orville and Wilbur Wright are considered the "fathers of modern aviation."…

Jan Davidsz De Heem Was Dutch still-life painter. He was born at Utrecht and his rare early pictures are in the style of Balthasar van der Ast, who taught him there. Later he worked in Leiden and showed that he had studied the restrained and simple works of the Haarlem still-life artists Claesz. and Heda. In 1636 he moved to Antwerp, became a citizen of that city in 1637, and spent most of his very productive life there. The paintings he did in Flanders are the ones for which he is most renowned and are very different in spirit from his earlier works: splendid flower pieces and large compositions of exquisitely laid tables which breathe all the opulent exuberance of Flemish Baroque painting. His work formed a link between the Dutch and Flemish still-life traditions and he is claimed by both schools. He came from a large family of painters and his many followers in Flanders and Holland included his son Cornelis (1631-95).…
