America is supposed to be a place of freedom and safety. But not everyone in America was living the dream. The average salary for an American workers was $500 a year. Although the poverty line for a family of six was $600. An average work week was sixty hours. Children had to work as well because families couldn't survive if they did not. Even worse the working conditions were extremely unsafe, unsanitary, and deadly.
