Congressional Disregard for Global Warming
A former United States Senator, Joe Lieberman, had this to say about global warming: “Today, we can see with our own eyes what global warming is doing. In that context it becomes truly irresponsible, if not immoral, for us not to do something.” The President of the French Republic asserted that “The time is past when humankind thought it could selfishly draw on exhaustible resources. We know now the world is not a commodity.” It is clear that global warming may be man’s greatest challenge - however, it seems as though many are still denying its existence.
These doubters, unfortunately, are not average Americans; they are high-powered government officials that can and will decide the fate of this country. The head of our country, Donald Trump, has claimed that global warming is a “hoax perpetuated by the Chinese.” The majority of his advisors agree with him on his stance that global warming isn’t happening. Flash floods and hurricanes may wipe out coastal cities. NASA asserts that the quantity and intensity of forest fires will increase, as well as droughts and heat waves. The World Wildlife Fund reports that global warming will directly harm many endangered species. Scores of scientists have been warning the United States government about global warming, yet our current administration refuses to take action.
