Archerfish
Archerfish
This world is filled with amazing diverse animals, and they are all different in their own way. Some hunt using their speed and others use their strength, but one particular animal uses one of the most unique ways of hunting. The archerfish of the amazon basin in my opinion has the most crazy but smart way of killing prey, by shooting it with its water pistol.
The archerfish environment is one of the most dangerous and challenging to survive in since it lives in the amazon basin. It has been forced to live in very shallow water due to the mass amounts of predators in its surrounding area. Still this fish has found a way to obtain food in this environment ; it literally shoots its prey above itself with its water pistol. This fish forces its gills shut to shoot out water out of its barrel like mouth just like a water gun, and is accurate up to 2 meters. It will usually shoot anything that moves or glows. What also makes this so incredible is that this fish has to adjust to the optical illusion due to it being underneath the water, and also the gravity pulling its shot down, but yet the archerfish still hits its target. The archerfish is rather small with its size around 5 to 10 cm. It is all silver with black stripes down its side, this helps it blend in with its environment. Its nose is very pointy and its mouth is also pointy for its shooting ability . Its prey is usually insects and other prey such as grasshoppers, spiders , and butterflies. This fish also has good eyesight since it needs to see what its shooting.
The archerfish is a great marksmen and its amazing how its have evolved to obtain food. Its incredible how nature finds a way to survive, and if that mean shooting prey with a water pistol then thats what the archerfish will do to survive.

Then I would explain that his target is below the surface of the lake and that by firing a steady stream of rounds at it, we might be able to hit it. (Well, this probably will not happen as anything that is covered by 4feet or more of water is fairly safe from being struck by conventional bullets.) While he is happily firing away at the target, I would direct his attention to the circular ripples on the surface of the target area being created by the impact of the .50 caliber slugs striking the water’s surface in a steady stream, the spacing between them, and then mention how the spacing relates to the frequency to the impacts. I would also say that since the bullets were being fired at a steady rate, that we could say that they were fired in an analog fashion.…

The primary swimming form of the Orangespotted Sunfish is labriform because they row their pectoral fins, an oscillatory fin motion. The mouth of these fish are terminal and moderately large. A terminal mouth allows this species to be a benthic and surface feeder. Their gill rakers are long and slender with space between them. This allows for particles in the water that flow into the mouth of the fish that they do not want to eat, to flush out. It indicates that the food of this fish is medium to large sized compared to their body. This correlates with an omnivorous diet and the ability to consume small and large prey. Daphnia and Cyclops are crustaceans often found in this species’ diet. Also, they help with mosquito control by feeding on mosquito larvae. The eyes of the Orangespotted Sunfish are corrected for spherical aberration, meaning they are a visual fish and need sight to find their prey. Since their prey is small fish and crustaceans, good eyesight is important to find them in the murky water that they live in. The Orangespotted Sunfish has adapted traits to better thrive in it’s…

Doesn’t an expensive lobster dinner sound good right now? You are probably thinking that it sounds delicious, but you just can’t afford it right now. I mean, have you looked at the price of lobster lately? The average cost is about $10 to $12 a pound acording to abc news Aug 22 2013 . Did you know that once upon a time, the thought of eating lobster was considered less than desirable? According to the University of Maine’s Lobster Institute, it once was considered a poor man’s food. In 17th century New England, it was given to the poor, prisoners, and servants. The thought of eating it was so repulsive that even the servants turned it down. The early colonists used the lobsters more for fertilizer than an enticing meal. Europeans historically liked eating lobster, but the early Americans colonists did not…

Everyone is aware there are different types of murders out there. All of them take people’s lives but how they do it in each category is different. In the case of serial killers they kill three or more individuals spaced out over a period of time. They tend to go through phases which include the killing phase, capture phase, aura phase, totem phase, and the depression phase. The phases do not happen in a specific order and not all serial killers experience all of them. Each individual is different. However, during the aura phase the killer becomes withdrawn from reality and tends to have heightened senses. During the killing phase is when the killer actually takes the victims life and that normally leads to the totem phase. This is when the killer tends to take a memento of the ‘moment’. For example, Albert Fish would take body parts to cook and eat. Serial killers may experience a phase of depression after the initial effects of the kill wears off, which is normally why the totem phase takes place (to prolong the experience). There is also the capture phase, which generally takes place prior to killing the victim. During this phase the killer renders the victim helpless in a way in which they cannot escape their captivity (Kitaeff, 2011, p. 102). It is quite complex and disturbing. Let’s move onto a serial killer case that is disturbing and riveting and claimed potentially hundreds of children’s lives.…

This fish tends to be found in the northern, colder climates. They can grow much larger than the largemouth bass. The walleye is a much more picky eater than the bass. The walleye will only eat at a certain depth depending on the water clarity, and temperature. It is very popular to catch these fish while ice fishing. In the winter time the walleye becomes less picky and will key in on much more fish, making them easier to catch. When ice fishing you must have a safe thickness of the ice. Then you must drill a hole through it with a device called an ice auger. Then you use tiny rods that average at around 28 inches to pull these walleye out of the water. If you are looking for a little more of a challenge, the walleye may be just the fish for you.…

Asian carp is a catchall name for species of silver, bighead, grass, and black carp from Southeast Asia. The huge, hard-headed silver carp also pose a threat to boaters. The fish can leap out of the water when startled by boat engines, often colliding with people and causing injuries. As very big filter feeders, Asian carp consume up to 20% of their bodyweight per day in plankton and can grow to over 100 pounds. Plankton are small floating organisms that form the foundation of the aquatic food chain and are vital to native fish. It is crucial to prevent Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes. Once established in an ecosystem they are virtually impossible to get rid of. Adult Asian carp have no natural predators in North America and females lay approximately half a million eggs each time they spawn.…

they use their filaments like mobile spider webs. They extend these into the surrounding water to ensnare particles of food falling from above. The filaments are covered in tiny hairs, probably for catching these particles. They also have neurons that connect to a particularly large part of the creature’s brain, presumably so it can sense what’s stuck to its fishing lines.…

Lake Conroe is filled with this tasty fish and the size can range from 3 inches to the same proportions of a large dog. Catfish are very accessible to any fisherman in the lake due to the fact catfish can be caught with many rods, reels, bait, and are found in almost any location. Their appetite ranges from crickets, bread, liver, worms, stink bait, shrimp, hotdogs, minnows, or even other small fish. Fishing for such a fish is done many ways but the most successful and common way is using a medium to large pole with a spinning reel over humps where the bait fish are pushed over the swellings and the catfish can snatch an easy meal. Catfish are bottom feeder with sensitive whiskers they use to feel and smell in the dark water. Using a stink bait or chicken liver soaked in fish oil catches their attention in any part of the day. Most fish hide when the barometric pressure drops (usually indicating rain is on its way) but the catfish energy spikes and the bottom feeder becomes very active making the odds of landing the prized fish even greater, that is if the fisherman can handle fishing in the rain. Catfish give a great meal and an experienced fish man can easily bag 20-80 fish in a good days fishing. But the most hunted after game fish up next can give even a professional fisherman the…
