Chromatin is spaghetti like before mitosis
Chromosomes (X-Shape)
Chromatid (each individual part of the chromosome)
Centromere (middle part of the chromosome)
Centriole (involved in cellular division, the poles that pull the chromatids)
Centrosome (microtubule organization center)
4. Diploid (2n) number
Half the diploid is haploid (n) number
Humans have 46 chromosomes (diploid)
5. G1, S, G2, I, P, P, M, A, T, Cytokinesis
Prophase - Duplicated chromosomes are visible
Prometaphase - the kinetochore spindle fiber attaches to chromosome
Metaphase - Chromosomes line up
Anaphase - Centrioles pull the

Apoptosis commits suicide on a cell.
10. Cyclins - Any proteins that are associated with the cycle of cell division with mitosis
Oncogenes - Cancer-causing genes
Tumor Suppressor genes - They specify proteins that directly and indirectly inhibit the cell cycle
Telomeres - Protect cells from damage

Ch. 10
1. Prophase I - Chromosomes are duplicated
Metaphase I - Homologous pairs align independently
Anaphase I - Homologous chromosomes separate and move toward the poles
Telophase I - Daughter cells have one chromosome from each homologous pair
Interkinesis - Chromosome still consist of two chromatids
2. Mitosis is simple cell division, two identical cells.
Meiosis is cell division for gametes (sex cells). from parents.
3. Gametes are haploid.
4. Fertilized egg is called a zygote.
5. Another name for a tetrad was a bivalent. Synaptonemal complex is a protein structure that forms between two homologous chromosomes during meiosis. Chiasma is the point where two homologous non-sister chromatids exchange genetic material. Crossing over occurs in prophase I.
6. Polar body is each of the small cells that bud off from an oocyte and do not develop into ova.
7. Homologous chromosomes have the same

Cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinases are regulatory proteins that assist in the cell cycle. Particular protein kinases give the go-ahead signals at G1 and G2 checkpoints. These protein kinases are present at a constant concentration in the cell but are inactive unless in the presence of cyclin, these are cyclin dependent kinases. The activity of a cdk rises and falls with the concentration of cyclin.…

I believe that there is much that we take for granted in our world today. One of these things we take for granted in the instant “treatment” for plants. We do so without even a second thought or consideration and continue to let it happen year after year. We also take for granted our everyday dependencies that stem from nature. I then question what it would take for us to realize our dependency on nature and to respect it as such. On page 73 of the reading, it discusses the importance of insects. Without insects, plants would not flourish the way they do and we would not be able to use them. Insect life is just as important as plant life and it could even be argued that it is just as important as human life since they allow for things that we need to be sustained. If we see killing of animals and humans as such a wrong doing, why don’t we see killing of insects this way?…
