This scene was said to be put in for drama, but the way the story happens in real life provides enough drama for the readers and doesn’t need to be changed just to add drama. This quote also shows how they are not true to the story and they are falsely writing about Mr. Van Daan. Mr.Frank also disapproves of the way Mr.Van Daan is written about, but Mr. Van Daan is not the only one falsely portrayed, but Mr. Frank is also. Mr. Frank is described in the play and the story as a hero who saved everyone, but in reality he is just like everyone else in the annex. It is true that Mr. Frank did a lot for the people in the annex, but he was scared when they found the thief. In Anne’s diary Mr.Frank is described as “white and nervous” (Frank 283). These characters not being in the play makes the readers believe that the ending might have happened differently than in real life. There were also many events that are altered and events that these characters were missing from. Henk says to Mr.Kraler, “To be on the safe side, I didn’t ring up the police, as with you I didn’t think it was the good thing to do. I don’t know anything, but I guess a lot” (Frank 284). This quote is showing that Henk believes someone is in the annex. This altars the idea the reader has on how the play might end, and that Henk might be the one who called the police and that’s why the Nazis showed up. By Goodrich and Hackett taking out these characters it changes the whole idea of why the Nazis really came to the annex that day. Although Henk might not have called the police that day there is no other reason that the Nazis would have showed up that day and these characters are also very important. The thief in the play was a completely different character. In the play the thief stealing was Mr Van Daan and changing the thief to Mr. Van Daan changes many perspectives that the readers have on other characters and events. Mrs. Frank says, “If he steals once. He’ll steal again!”(Goodrich and Hackett 426). This changes how we see Mr.Van Daan and also this whole scene takes place. By changing the thief it
