Hi my name is Froilan A. Buenaventura , I am 19 years old. I was born and raised in Caloocan city. I studied my elementary at Notre Dame of Greater Manila and graduated there. Then I transferred to De La Salle Araneta when I was in high school. I graduated high school at De La sale. Luckily I graduated high school because when I was in high school, I did allot of crazy stuffs that made my teachers very mad at me that time. I remember that they even called my parents asking what they would do to me. But later on my life had change because of my friend Dave. When I was messing my life in high school my friend Dave had told me, “Why are you doing do dumb things that even embarrassed you in many people when you can play basketball and making a name”. I thought of what Dave’s has told me, I have little skills in basketball that time, So I have to practice playing basketball with my friends just to be good. At that time my life had turned.

Later on, I became good at playing basketball. I even joined the 2nd year players for intramurals. I was so addicted to basketball until now. Even now I practice each day of my life trying to be the greatest player. Right now I am preparing for what is the next thing that I am going to aim in my life. And while I am thinking about it, I have chosen to focus on my hobbies, Studies, and other activities to make me a better person. Now in college, a lot of things had change. There is more of depending on myself than depending on other. There are a lot of new experiences now in

Growing up with a dad who was All-State for Basketball, and a Grandfather who played Division I basketball; I was always expected to be good at ball. I was always decent but never quite lived to expectations. When I turned 12 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 3 scoliosis, which limited not only my quickness but my ability to twist and run normally. The basketball dynasty was coming to an end as I had lost a lot of athleticism. I was always on the middle team, not very good, not very bad, but I always tried new moves; which made me hard to guard. I finally quit all sports because my back couldn’t handle the stress, and I wasn’t prepared to go into surgery. One day as I was watching…

I started doing good in 12s but not as good as I wanted to and was expected. Thomas became my full time coach and I actually became really fond of him. We went to a lot of different camps that I would get invited too and was getting better. Around this time, a girl that had just started playing tennis started to come to practice and I knew who she was because I played her and my dad told me that her dad was a doctor he worked with. I tried to be nice with her but I didn't really become friends with her and she became closer to another girl named Laura. I was still friends with them and would walk with them but it was more their friendship then me with them. We all ended up traveling together with Thomas to different tournaments and that was always really fun, and that was around the time that tennis really became my life. I started realizing how many times I would say "can't. have tennis" and it didn't really bother me much, at first. My friends understood when I couldn't spend the night because i had tennis early the next day or when I couldn't do anything on weekdays and most weekends but that was tennis and that was…

First of all, playing sports is one of my favorite things to do. They teach me discipline and I must do and Not do what coach says. Sports also teach me good sportsmanship. I learn to love the game by playing my opponent/friends and showing how to take a win or loss. Last year playing basketball we didn’t lose but one game, I was devastated. I like to think I took the Loss ok but I just blamed it all on myself. I got to show my winning spirts in a ton of games that season, and I think I showed my happiness well. Our team didn’t brag or show off we simply just played our game, and the results turned out as they may.…

On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…

Coming in to summer three months ago I had no clue where I was going to go. I went on plenty of visits to schools in which I had the opportunity to play tennis. The whole time however I felt like I was following my father's footsteps because he too played sports at the collegiate level and actually won a national championship. His accomplishments drove me to apply myself and become the best at what I did as well. I went on one visit for fun this summer, KU. After my visit I felt like I wanted to make my own path. The opportunites seemed endless here at KU. My freshman year I only did reasonably well in the classroom because I knew I had to in order to play tennis. I feel different this year; I feel more motivated to commit myself to education.…

From a young age we’re asked what we want to be when we grow up, never how we expect to become when we grow up. I was well aware of what I wanted to become, but not sure how to get there until I started high school when my counselor explained to me the importance of having a full portfolio with a wide range of extracurricular activities. Then it became clear to me, I needed extracurricular activities to become who I wished to be. Throughout my high school career I’ve participated in several extracurricular actives such as math club, soccer and UIL One Act. In the future, I want to participate in these activities or anything similar to those I participated in high school.…

Since I was 7 years old, basketball has played an integral part of my life. I have devoted countless hours to not just a sport, but a passion, an outlet; to the game that I love. When I arrived at Bow Middle School as a fifth grader, my classmates and I would always look up to the 7th and 8th grade middle school basketball teams. Every year during winter carnival, the boys and girls teams would play a game in front of the entire school. Playing in that game became a dream and a goal of mine, but first I would need to make the team. For three years I developed my basketball skills, using my passion for the sport and desire to play in that game as motivation. When tryouts for basketball in 8th grade drew near, I knew I was ready. However a new coach would be at the helm this year. Our new basketball coach was also a coach for the youth football program. This resulted in numerous football…

After we finished running, he divided us into our grades. I was a tenth grader, so I went with the tenth grade group. I played with them for a while when one of the coaches told me to go play with the bigger kids. I was so excited! I didn’t know anyone in their group, but I didn’t have to speak English to play with them, so I just played. When we finished our fast day of tryouts, the coach asked me where I was from, and I told him I am from Kenya. He said, “Alright, see you tomorrow.” The next day I came, we ran a lot, andI don’t even remember if we played soccer. When I went home, I was so exhausted that I just went to sleep. The tryout went for a while, and everyone was trying his best to make the school team. The time came for the coaches to choose the team. The ninth grade coach started calling the names of the freshmen that made the freshmen team. Then tenth grade was announced next, and then the junior varsity come I heard my name! I was surprised that I make JV because I thought l would make varsity, but the JV coach told me JV will make me a good player and ready for varsity next year. I was happy to hear that from someone who knows a lot about soccer. I trained everyday so that I…
