Michelle Obama was born on January 17, 1964. She lived in Chicago with her parents and older brother Craig. Some ancestors of Michelle’s were slaves. Michelle was raised in a loving but strict home. Her family was somewhat poor. Her mother was a housewife and her father had multiple sclerosis. Her father worked at a water plant. Her parents were taught her early on the importance of education.
She was able to read when she was four years old and she skipped second grade.She went to Bryn Mawr Elementary School. In Bryn Mawr Elementary School she was in the gifted classes. For high school she went to Whitney Young High School. She was in advanced classes, she was in National Juniors Honors Society, and she was on student council. When she graduated she had the second highest average.
Michelle went to Princeton and Harvard for college. At Princeton she studied sociology and African-American studies. At Harvard she graduated with a degree in law. During college she helped run a daycare and she was a tutor.
After graduating college, she worked at a Chicago law firm where she met Barack Obama. The firm asked her to be his adviser when he came there for a summer internship. They got married in 1992, when Michelle was twenty eight years old. She left the law firm to work for the mayor of Chicago. She was an assistant commissioner of planning and development for Chicago. In 1996, she took a job as associate dean at the University of Chicago. In 2002, she became executive director for the University of Chicago Hospitals.
Michelle and Barack had two daughters, a 14 year old named Malia and a 11 year old named Natasha. They have the same value of education from their parents. When Michelle and Barack are on business trips Michelle’s mother takes care of them.
Michelle became the first lady on January 20th, 2009. She has done many things while in office. She helped fight obesity with her Let’s Move! program. She also started Joining Forces to help military
