Analyzing The Song 'The Love Potion' By Jesse Martin
Ceianna
My favorite song about love is Mumford and Sons' Broad Shoulder Beasts. I like this song because it demonstrates the magic of love in a very underlying way with its melodies and in a very strong way with its lyrics. Two good examples of this in literature are "The Love Potion" adapted by Jesse Martin and "The Goodness of St. Rocque" by Alice Dunbar. While the items in these stories may be different they serve as an underlying source for the magic of love.

In " The Love Potion" adapted by Jesse Martin a peasant named Neronimo is trying to win the love of a cruel woman named Adina by using a love potion not knowing that she has feelings for him which she does not admit until he has won the hearts of other women. The item in this story

Music has been around since the beginning of time. Many artists express themselves by writing songs to convey emotions, tell fictional stories, or to share their own experiences. The human mind attaches many senses and feelings to melodies; they are tied to moments in life. Everyone feels the same emotions even though people are all different and unique. Songs are written about all sorts of feelings such as happiness, sadness, angriness, and sorrow. For example, if a person is having a bad day he can find a song relating to how he is feeling. American Idol, a reality show, auditions millions of young adults who have a passion for music and want their talent to be recognized. Carrie Underwood is the season four winner of the show. Since her success in 2005, she has become a very popular country music star by having many hit songs and receiving two Grammy's. Released in 1971 and produced by Reprise records, river is an intensely emotional contemporary folk song about heartbreak. Written solely by Joni Mitchell for her album ‘Blue’ the song is reminiscent of Christmas time although lyrically it has little relationship to Christmas. (Hopper, 2012)…

I selected “I am Offering This Poem,” Ode to My Socks,” and “Bonny Barbara Allan” for all having a common theme. I also selected “All of Me” by John Legend, “The Gift” by Jim Brickman, and “Don’t Let Me Down” by the Chainsmokers. The common theme of all of these is love. Love is an intense feeling of deep affection, and all three of these poems, and songs contain the definition of love.…

The correlation between literature and love is not minor. Discussions about love are timeless that have survived mankind throughout many centuries. To this day, many people do not fully understand the depths of love. According to Wikipedia, Love is a major theme in many scriptures, tales from mythology, and literature. It is described as being interpersonal, impersonal, and religious interpretation. The central role of love is in many works that we've read so far. It is incredibly important in Moliere's Tartuffe, Voltaire's Candide, and Flaubert's "A Simple Heart". Although different messages, all three of these works of literature deal with various aspects of love which includes sufficient bargain of love of both human and divine.…

In Frank Sinatra's song "Witchcraft" I believe it is a swing tune because of the strong rhythm thought out the music. I also believe this could be considered a piece of Jazz music, due to the melody, harmony, and rhythm of the song. Although, one thing that sets Jazz music apart from other genres is that of improvisation. In this video I do not believe that Frank Sinatra is using improvisation in his music. Although the band possibly could be but that is unknown to most listeners. Personally for me, I love this kind of music, I feel as though it has so much depth and rhythm. As for the elements of Jazz, the music has a strong melody which is the tune of the song. It also contains a strong rhythm and harmony which is the heartbeat of any…

I picked this song ‘Flawless’ By Beyoncé. In this song it has many different feministic views. There is a part in song which is by Chimamanda Adichie (“We Should all be Feminists”) which she is explaining what feminism is in our society. Also at the beginning she has a part form her song ‘Bow Down’ which can raise a few eyebrows on how Beyoncé feels about other women. Then she has another part in the song explain the different roles that she has learned from her family and how as women the way that we are we are all ‘flawless’ in our own way. Not necessarily saying that us as women there is nothing wrong with us. This is a perfect song for a young woman to hear, something that we can learn from in a way that most young adults relate…

One of my favorite songs, recently, has been J. Cole’s Love Yourz. This song relate to feelings that we can all relate to, feelings of envy and jealously. We often look at the life styles of those around us, and we see what they have, and we compare ourselves to them. We feel that if we don’t live a certain life style or drive a fancy car that we are not living a purposeful life. We fall into the trap of focusing on others blessings and ignoring our own. From personal experience I have done this. I have looked at the blessing of others, and wondered why my blessings were not the same.…

What is Love? Robert Frost once wrote “Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.” Love is one of the strongest emotions we feel, yet it is the hardest emotion to ever be understood. “The Song of Songs” by Ellen Gilchrist, explores the theme of love, particularly a mother’s love for her child, and the impact it has on one woman specifically, Barret Clare.…

“Danse Russe” by William Carlos Williams is the most romantic because the character in the peom is embrassing his individualism and being happy with himself, while feeling lonely. “I in the north room dance naked, grotesquely before my mirror…I admire my arms, my face, my shoulders, flanks, buttocks against the yellow drawn shades” {411}. The character in the poem loves being himself, he still has to find the missing puzzle piece that will make him complete, so he will not feel lonely…

The word Love is a strange feeling that can be one of the most exciting things someone will ever experience. It’s a feeling of warm, personal deep affection that one has for another person or thing. In Helen Farries poem “Magic of Love” she is very straightforward about how love makes someone feel “It can comfort and bless/ it can bring happiness” (601). But in John Frederick Nim’s poem “Love Poem” he uses metaphors to talk about love and you have to pay close attention to what he is saying. The theme of these two poems is love and the opposing views of the author’s views of love.…

Making a powerful and controversial first statement, the single "Take Me To Church" sets the tone for Hozier's self-titled album. The song suggests that, religion in many ways goes against the basics of human life. The artist feels that being in love is a natural thing, and perhaps the idea of love is essential to the human heart. In a recent interview, Hozier stated "There are certain doctrines that undermine a very simple aspect of humanity, a very natural aspect of humanity. To me that's kind of what the song is about".…

This essays is similar to Kelly Clarkson’s song “Invincible”. The song is about someone growing, breaking free, and becoming a stronger, independent individual. I am eternally grateful for everything music and singing has done for me, which is why I compared these items to one another.…
