Analysis Of The Movie Glory

The 1989 movie, glory, was about the first black regiment to fight for the North in the Civil War; also known as the 54th Massachusetts. African-American runaway slaves and free men were not only fighting for their freedom, but were also fighting against discrimination. The government and white soldiers refused to view colored soldiers as equals, even though they were fighting the same war. Change began to happen by the end of the Civil War. Despite the challenges faced, Colonel Robert Shaw, John Rawlins, Thomas Searles, and Trip, fought to the death and proved themselves worthy of freedom. Colonel Robert Shaw, the son of an abolitionist, supported having African-American soldiers. He courageously fought with and led the colored regiment through several battles. Shaw fought for racial justice in the military by sticking up for his soldiers, providing them with shoes, and treating/training them like everyone else. When Shaw found out about the unfair wages in the army, Shaw wouldn’t accept his pay just like the enlisted men wouldn’t accept theirs. Colonel Shaw was an ethical man who made many sacrifices for himself and his soldiers.
Snowflake, faced many challenges in training and fighting in the war. Thomas used to work for Colonel Robert Shaw’s parents but he was shocked to be treated so “harshly” by Shaw. in my opinion, Thomas was one of the weakest men. He didn’t have the fire like the other enlisted men did. Thomas was shot and stabbed in the first two battles, but what showed his heart, was when he asked not to be sent back home after being shot at James Island. Thomas was a free black but was still passionate about fighting for his people. He was proud to be in the 54th. Before the battle of Fort Wagner began, Thomas bravely volunteered to hold the flag. I was certainly shocked but happy that he did. He showed his dedication to his family in the 54th Massachusetts, Colonel Robert Shaw, and
