The song “Stan” by rap artist Eminem fits the dramatic monologue format popularized by Robert Browning, because in Eminem’s song, Stan fits all of the characteristics of the Duke in My last Douches. Stan is extremely obsessive; in the beginning of the song he dies his hair and is trying to actually become Slim Shady, even his outfit and style are the same as Slim and is screaming in his girlfriend’s face because she keeps calling him Stanly when I would imagine he would want to be called Slim, or Eminem, or Marshal, and just the fact that you would write not one but multiple letters, as he mentions in the song, to a celebrity in the first place is just a bit weird and obsessive in a way because he is so obsessed with just wanting to talk to the person that he is writing letter to this person that he has met only once before in his lifetime acting like he has known him for years and even sees Eminem wave on his TV and he waves back to him! Stan also has his basement walls covered with pictures and posters of Slim Shady and his music. Stan also tells Eminem that he is his biggest fan and he mentions in verse two that his little brother and himself waited in the cold for four hours in the blistering cold just for an autograph but I think he did not just wait there with his brother, we waited there for himself to just to get close to Eminem because he is obsessed with him. He knows just about all of Slim Shady’s past like his childhood, saying he is just like him in a way I never knew my father either, Stan even got a tattoo of Eminem’s name on his chest, a man he has only met one time and he put his name forever on his chest, Stan mentions that his girlfriend is jealous of Eminem because he talks about him 24/7. In verse three, Stan is upset because Slim still did not write back to him in six months and drank a fifth of vodka and is driving his car doing 90 on the freeway, just because a person he met one time did not write back to him after writing multiple…
