An Excerpt From Odysseus In Homer's Odyssey
“Penelope, I shall be back,” Odysseus said, about to leave. “Ok,” Penelope said, looking at Odysseus blinking back tears.
“If I don’t come back, then you can marry someone else,” Odysseus said and left for the plane. Telemachus, still a child, woke up with Dawn. Telemachus rubbing his eyes, saw his Dad leave, “Mommy, where’s Daddy going?”
“He’s just going away for a bit Telemachus, now let me make you breakfast,” Penelope said with tiny drops of tears rolling down her face, patting Telemachus.
“Okay,” Telemachus said tiredly.

“That was ten years ago and now the war’s about over and he still hasn’t come back,” Telemachus said. He was about twenty years old now and talking to his girlfriend.

How did you get captured?” I questioned.
“Well-” Mac was interrupted by a soldier saying “Get to work!”
We separated and started working. The work was hard, it was lifting heavy bags of sand, extracting rocks and carrying them, or making tunnels. The jobs purpose was to kill the prisoners. But I had always done my job almost perfectly without messing up. The soldier would get jealous and almost beat me to death for being “perfect” as they would say. When it was night time, I would spend thirty minutes to an hour each day trying to figure out how to escape with my friends or friendly soldiers. A few days later, we finally figured out a plan that would include the least deaths out of every other plan that was proposed.
“So basically, during training, someone will have to steal the keys to the gate. Then after that we execute the plan and get us all out of here,” I said with confidence.
“But who will steal the keys? It means instant death to anyone who gets captured,” Mac questioned.
“Me! I have my own ways to get the keys,” I said proudly.
When young Dawn with her rose-red fingers shone once more, I was assigned to serve the authorities of the camp as a supposed promotion. While the officers were talking casually, I snuck into the office with stealth and stole the keys. Nobody suspected me as a culprit because I barely talked; they thought I was stupid but a hard

When I got to the forest, everything was dark and I had no idea where France was but I persevered on, thinking about home. An hour or two later, I was very far from the camp, but knew that the soldiers were probably looking for me now because they do a check at 2:00 a.m. when young Dawn with her rose-red fingers shone once more. I asked to myself whether I should keep going or start resting. A few moments later I came with the conclusion to hide and rest in a secret place I found.
When young Dawn with her rose-red fingers shone once more, I started off on my journey to France. I had just started walking when heard the faint sound of dogs barking coming towards my way. I started sprinting straight, not paying attention to where I was going. “I didn’t think they would come this far” I thought to myself. Because I wasn’t watching where I was going, my head smashed into a tree, I tried to get up and keep running. I started to get slower and slower, then suddenly a soldier bashed me with a rifle and I went unconcious.
“Hey Odysseus,” a weird voice

Abelard rushed in with a wooden bat, with the most frightened look on his face. He told us to get in the corner behind a small closet door, but by the time my little sister had made it, it was too late. The dreaded German soldiers had already barged into the room. They grabbed Abelard, and he had a look of defeat on his face. They shot both my mother and father. I fell, my heart feeling like an elephant was on top of it. One of the soldiers came and hit me with his gun. I remember seeing Abelard jump out of the soldiers grip trying to block them from shooting my little sister, so they shot him.…

"Maybe if I can just get that key-" "Then what?" Snotlout said. "You know, maybe they got smart this time and actually switched it up on us like... like.. having separate keys." "Wait, really? I've been wrong this whole time?" "What are you talking about?" Ruffnut said. "There's such thing as separate keys?!" "Yeah bro. You didn't know that?" "Someone told me that 'One key unlocks every door'!" "Who told you that?" Tuffnut knocked on his helmet, then he realized. "Uh... Oh! Myself." Ruffnut faced palmed. "Hey, but what if they made a key like that? Like if the entire building could be unlocked by one key! A Master Key! Yep, that's what I'm calling it." "That's so lame." Ruffnut added. "Hey! You just wait! It will be a thing!" "Well none of that matters anyway. Once Viggo gets rid of Hiccup, guess who's next." Snotlout said, pointing a finger at everyone. "Snotlout, you've been the voice of doom all day! So would you just shut up and help us get out of here." "You know, I think Snotlout is right." Fishlegs said. "What?!" Everyone said in unison. "No, no, not that! Different cells, different keys. I'm thinking what if Snotlout is not that far off, if they do have them separate they'll most likely have them with different guards to try to confuse us." "But even if we figure out which key is which, we have to have a good plan after that." Heather said. "You're right, you're all right." Astrid said. "We need to figure out which key is which and have a plan." "Or... We could blast our way out!" Tuffnut shouted. "Yeah! Let's blast!" his sister chanted. "Guys, you do know we can't blast anything without anything to blast with..." Heather said. "ha! on the contrary, watch and learn!" Tuffnut backed up to the wall. "Prepare to have your faces rubbed!" He yelled and threw a small pebble at the bars. The pebble bounced off the bars and landed on the ground. "what?! no!" Tuffnut picked up pebble. "that…

When I was looking for a book to read, this was one of the last ones on my list. I wanted to read about World War II – a war that seemed more interesting. However, this book and I crossed paths when all the books I wanted to read were out of stock at the bookstore. I thought I’d take a chance, and I’m glad I did. I fell into a book-induced stupor when I began reading it. After awhile I realized an hour and half had gone by and I was halfway through the book. I was engrossed by the…

“What can I do for you?” he asked. I selected a text option for quests, “The corrupt captain of the guard has been charging everyone too much for taxes. Think you can steal the records and whatever he’s taken?” I accepted, of course. People like that in real life angered me too. Bullies who thought they owned the school and everyone in it. I went to the guard tower and entered it. His quarters were at the top floor. The guards took a look at me, but said nothing. After a while, they sat back down and began to talk amongst each…

Right now, I’m writing in a nearby casualty clearing station – recovering from injuries caused by the devastating battles that happened on the Western Front. Until today, I cannot believe that I’m in France – a country that has been a mystery to me before I enlisted in the war. And being able to become one of the survivors – after two major battles in the trenches against the Huns – was a miracle to begin with.…

A guard with an unfamiliar face approached our door. “You are going to take a shower now,” the guard snared from the doorway of our barrack. We shuffled out from our bunks and moved out the door. The soldier strutted with pride in front of us, as if he was proud of what he was doing. The now familiar stench of burning flesh stung my nostrils. I watched my bare feet navigate the rugged terrain until we stopped in front of a square brick building with one doorway and two sets of chained windows.…

It was midnight. Darkness was covering perfectly the unconquered nature. The street was so silent that the only things I could hear were the wind whistling outside the window and the car engine rumbling. I looked at the side mirror of the taxi. No one was driving behind me. The feeling of loneliness made me feel so uncomfortable that I declutched to speed up this old intricate machine. My last trip to this rural area has made me trap on this deserted street and I had no choice but continued this journey to get back.…
