PROJECT OBJECTIVES AND OVERALL RESEARCH APPROACH

TOPIC CHOSEN AND ITS CONTEXT

My research is AN EVALUATION OF THE BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF GUARANTY TRUST BANK PLC BETWEEN 1 MARCH 2007 AND 31 DECEMBER 2009. This topic focuses on the financial and business performance of Nigerian Banks, using a case study of Guaranty Trust Bank PLC, since the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) compelled banks to raise their capital base to a minimum of N25 billion which led to re-capitalisation and consolidation by banks in December 2005. I will compare the performance of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTB) with the performance of other companies in the banking industry and the industry average. I will bench-mark its performance with that of First Bank PLC, which is a strong competitor of the Bank (GTB).

REASON FOR CHOOSING THE TOPIC
The work of a professional accountant very often include evaluating and analysing financial and business information and comparing different organisations' performance .
