1.1 Topic chosen
After reading all twenty diversified approved project topic. I have chosen topic number eight, ‘The business and financial performance of an organisation over a three year period.’

I will be carrying my research and analysis on ‘Tesco plc’,by evaluating its financial and business performance. At the same time I will compare with other companies within the industry in which Tesco operates. The time span on which my research would be base will be from 2007 to 2009. Although, Tesco plc is the market leader in terms of market share in the UK, I will benchmark its relative performance with ‘Sainsbury’s plc’, which holding third largest market share in the UK grocery market. I would try to show sector wise performance of respective companies from strategic point of view with particular focus on financial aspects, reasoning their better or worse performance.

1.2 Reasons for choosing the topic
A professional accountant, very often needs to evaluate, analyze and comment on financial and business information’s. The topic 8-‘The business and financial performance of an organisation over a three year period’ gives me chance to value and improve myself of my understanding and knowledge in this major area.So this report writing will act as a simulation of real
