Full Speech Title: An Apple a Day keeps it Away

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the 3 chronic diseases that eating an apple a day can help prevent.

Central Idea/Thesis Statement: Eating an apple a day can help prevent 3 chronic diseases such as Diabetes, Cancer and Heart disease.

Introduction

I. When hearing the phrase “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” some people might not believe it, but after extensive research conducted by various participants such as the American Institute of Cancer Research an apple a day might actually keep the doctor away.

II. Apples are one of my favorite fruits so I decided to do research on them and according to Medical Doctor Michael Greger, “Foods high in antioxidants, such as apples, appear to help prevent many chronic oxidative stress diseases.”

III. State Central Idea & Preview Main Points

A. First I’ll discuss how eating an apple a day can help prevent diabetes and decrease the chances of getting type II diabetes.

B. Second, I’ll discuss how another Chronic Disease that eating an apple a can help prevent is Cancer.

C. Finally, I’ll discuss that Heart Disease can be prevented by eating an apple a day.

(First let me begin with how eating an apple a day can help prevent diabetes and decrease the chances of getting type II diabetes.)

Body

I. Eating an apple a day can help prevent diabetes and decrease the chances of getting type II diabetes.

A. According to a report by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, last access May 13, 2015 “Reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes may be as simple as eating more apples, a new study has found.”

B. “Nutritionist Leslie Beck wrote that people in the study who ate a higher amount of apples were found to be 23 percent less likely to develop type 2 diabetes.”
