An Analysis Of Sookan's Act Of Bravery
Sookan has changed a lot during her journey to freedom. But she mostly changed in her acts of bravery. Bravery is shown by Sookan many times during the book. Her bravery started when she looked up at captain Narita when he trashed Haiwons birthday party. ''The best thing to do when he came by was to lower ones eye and wait"
(Choi 26)
"Except for grandfathers and mine everyone eyes were lowered in silence" (Choi 27). This shows that she is barge enough to look up a captain Narita and not be scared. Another time she was bravery was when she clapped for the boy who stood up at school." Don't you know that we will stab you bastards first. We'll help the Americans destroy you all. The student gasped. But I clapped

The Bird stopped laughing.”(213) This makes him courageous because he is standing up to the bird. Defeating the Bird’s expectations is what makes him courageous. Another example of Louie being courageous is when he is ill and his rations cut in half. He wanted work to get his rations back. He begs the Bird for work. The Bird tells him to clean the pig’s quarters.“Emaciated and seriously ill, Louie was condemned to crawl on the ground, picking up feces and cramming handfuls of the pig feed into his mouth to save himself from starving to death.”(206) Picking up feces and eating pig feed while he is sick is what makes louie courageous. In the memoir, Year Of Impossible Goodbyes, Sookan changes from someone who is dependent on others and becomes someone who is independent and responsible. This change is seen in three moments. When Grandfather dies, Sookan has to take part of the place of Mother. Sookan has to do more work on her own and help Inchun, too. "Sitting on the ground by the tree stump, we sorted, folded, and then packed into bundles of twelve, or 'tah,' the pile of ugly green socks that Aunt Tiger put out for us in the morning"(Choi 49). Sookan is doing the work with Inchun but she has to be the adult. There are no adults watching them, which it sounds like they've pretty much always had an adult around. When the Russian soldiers came, the whole family stayed inside…

The dictionary defines courage as a build up of an emotion or adrenaline , to do something that involves you stepping out of your comfort zone. In the film ‘3:10 to Yuma’ we see numerous pieces of courage shown by numerous different people, even people you wouldn't expect to see it from. There is three perfect examples of this in the film, When Will Evans, Dan Evans son, builds up enough ‘COURAGE’ to save his father from being shot in the head by Ben Wade, by holding a gun to Ben Wade, even though he knows that if he gets a chance, he will disarm and possibly kill him, due to him being much fast than william, but he stepped out of his comfort zone to protect his father Another is when the vet builds up enough ‘COURAGE’…

For example Ty from Street Pharm shows the trait bravery through never showing fear and fighting for his life all for the family business. To start off Ty is brought into the police station because he is accused of being a hustler. “If they bring ya in, don’t sweat it. Stay cool and stick to yo’ story (Van Diepen 153).” This quote reveals that by Ty not showing fear he is not giving the cops any reason to believe he is guilty. According to the article “A Practical Guide to Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces,” many stories fit into a basic structure that follows a particular pattern. For example, in the popular series, Harry Potter, Harry believes he is just a regular boy living in his ordinary world in the beginning of this story. When Harry is first told he is a wizard he refuses to believe it. Then, he is taken to a magical school where his adventure begins and he starts to discover the world of wizardry (CITE). Already this story follows the basic outline of the hero’s journey. Later in this analysis the entire diagram of the hero’s journey will be revealed explaining more of how Harry Potter and many other stories follow this outline perfectly.…

Malala Yousafzai said, “We were scared, but our fear was not as strong as our courage.” To some people, courage is seen in everyday acts of bravery. When a person does what seems to be a brave act during a calamity, without proper training, it is not bravery. It. Is. Courage. Courage is doing something that is dangerous and noble, but not irrational. It should also make you a better person, or the world a better place.…

Western and nonwestern heroes come from different regions of the world; therefore, have different cultural backgrounds. More specifically, western heroes come from the Greco-Roman or Judeo-Christian traditions. Nonwestern heroes come from other parts of the world that would not associate with these traditions. While these heroes might seem to have little in common when it comes to origin, “The Hero’s Journey” by Joseph Campbell demonstrates that all heroes have “similar patterns” (Campbell). However by examining the non-western hero, Mulan, in “The Ballad of Mulan” demonstrates how this figure is different than the hero outlined in Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey” in the following ways, Mulan does not have any kind of “supernatural aid”, “tests that lead to the final showdown”, or a “life-changing experience for her or many others” (Campbell).…

    How Is Scout Brave

An example of this happening in the book is when Jem is telling Scout to go home but she didn’t want to show that she was being a ‘scaredy cat’. “Scout, I’m telling you for the last time, shut your trap or go home-I declare to the Lord you’re gettin’ more like a girl every day!’ With that, I had no option but to join them.” (Lee 69). This shows that Scout is brave because in these times it was difficult being a girl and Scout didn’t care what other people thought about her. This takes a lot of bravery to do. Another example of when this happens in the book is when Jem is telling Scout that he is going to go back to the Radley house to get back his pants but Scout doesn’t want him to go alone. So she insists on going back with him but Jem convinces her to stay where she was. “It’s not like he’d never speak to you again or somethin’... I’m gonna wake him up, Jem, I swear I am-’ Jem grabbed my pajama collar and wrenched it tight. ‘Then I’m goin’ with you-’ I choked” (Lee 75) This also shows that Scout is brave because even though she is really scared of the Radley house she wants to go back with Jem to get his pants. Most girls would never even think about going back to the house because a lot of the girls then wore dresses and used manners and were also pretty much scared of…
