All My Son As A Romantic Play Analysis
The play “All My Son” is a naturalist play. Do you agree?
Most of the people gets mixed up with realism and naturalism as both the technique shares some of the similar futures but both the technique are different from each other. The word realism mean a technique of writing which shows tried to symbolize actions and common circumstances as they actually are, without glorification and the word naturalism is an intense form of realism.( Scheidenhelm, 2007). (Cash, 2014) Similarly in the play ‘all my son’ Joe does not want to accept his crime for selling defective cylinder instead he makes Steven take the blame for his crime. In this way he could to cover up his crime in order to avoid the inhibition. At the end of the play when his family finds outs his crime through his own wife’s mouth Joe had no choice rather than to hand over himself to police but he doesn’t decides to accept his crime but instead he tend to kill himself due to guilty. Since this incidence occurred during the war, Joe is not only the one who was making benefits from the war but everyone was taking benefits from it for example the line where Joe states “all kind of business going on. In my day, either you were a lawyer, or a doctor, or you worked in a shop” his use of line different type of business margining shows that there was lot of business going on after or during the war whether it is doctor or lawyer or shops but the only difference is that people doesn’t mentions about it as a business instead they keep this topic as taboo. In the play ‘all my sons’ every character are having their own internal and external conflict due to cretin circumstances for example; Joe the protagonist of the play suffers throughout the play due to the situation where he had to make choice between his accepting his crime or making money for his family, second example would be Keat Joe’s wife suffers due to the situation where even though she know the actual criminal but she can’t speak out because Joe is her husband and Chris and Ann had to also suffer because of a satiation where both of them had to choose between their fathers and love.
