“Effective nonsense keeps one foot on the ground; fantasy needs a realistic background, a frame of familiar reference. A tour of Wonderland without the practical, very English little Alice to serve as norm would be tedious indeed. But the presence of Alice as norm, as the embodiment of Victorian practicality and industry, suggests that the Alice books may have satiric implications. (Matthews 109).…

The accident that happened to Alice is what led her into writing this whole story. “I feel an incredible blow in my right eye. I look down long enough just in time to see my brother lower his gun. Both brothers rush to my side.” (Walker). This definitely is a vivid detail and giving you a picture of what ytjust happened just by the way she describes things. This accident took a toll on Alice and how people viewed her now. That’s what she was worried about at the time. People didn’t look at Alice the same “That girl’s a little mess” is what people were whispering behind her back.…

Alice in wonderland is an adventurous book full of mystery, conflicts, and surprisingly allegory. Alice goes through trails, revelations, and at one point even gets accused of “being the wrong Alice.” In this story, Alice believes that she is dreaming and having a weird one at that, but in reality she is not really dreaming. Alice is really trying to find herself and with that she is portraying the conflicts in her life through the world of wonderland. To me wonderland is just a dimension of realization and a way for Alice to find the answers to the questions that she needs. But will Alice realize this in time or will she go on through her “dream” without any realization at all? In Alice in wonderland there are many cases of allegory. The cases the i will be pointing out and defining in my own words are “The Rabbit Hole”, “Size and Growth”, and “The Looking - Glass.” In this essay i will explain my theories and definitions of the allegory in Alice in Wonderland.…

    Imaginative Journey

Magic is symbolised through the constant music in the film. This is evident when Alice opens the door to the beautiful garden. The director uses a calming instrumental piece of music to show the difference between the reality in Alice’s life and the reality in the magical world behind the small door. The use of a close up shot enforces Alice’s facial expressions to show the audience her excitement and interest in entering the garden. What the audience discovers in Alice’s magical journey is that she’s trying to use magic and her imagination as a platform for self-expression. For example, the rabbit and all the magical characters she meets, from the rude caterpillar to the Cheshire cat, all help her through her imaginative journey. Her fear of speaking in front of people is a reoccurring motif and each character plays a part in helping her overcome this fear. The caterpillar tells her “everything has a purpose, even here”. Her ‘purpose’ was not only to escape her boring life with magic and imagination, but rather meet that life head on and conquer her…

Lewis Carroll 's Alice 's Adventures in Wonderland is a story that deals with the issues of coming of age. It is the growth of Alice from an immature and undisciplined child to an intelligent and clever young woman. The fantasy world that Carroll created imitates reality in how as people begin to mature from adolescence to adults; they become more assertive and verbally aggressive. In reality adults learn to be more assertive through life experiences and lessons learned. As adults become masters at language they are able to assert themselves more effectively. This is displayed as well in Alice as she begins to mature and gain more confidence in her verbal abilities as well as her understanding of the rules of Wonderland; she becomes more assertive and verbally aggressive.…

Though Alice is a dreamer and a strong believer in not giving up, which is shown by her courage in every situation she encounters in Wonderland, she does have a hard time finding meaning with the animals and creatures, such as the baby pig she is thrown by the Duchess, and this frustrates her. She is a logic thinker, just like Lewis Carroll, despite her fantasy of course, since it’s her reality mixed with her fantasy and her unconscious that is creating the dream.…
