Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11, 1755, on the island of Nevis and was the illegitimate son of Rachel Faucett Lavien and James Hamilton. As a young child Hamilton worked for a merchant, he was later on sent to the American colonies to be educated. At only sixteen years old, young Hamilton was off on his own. “Hamilton at the time, was enrolled in King's College (now Columbia University) but due to the war with British his studies were cut short” (Enote.com). He played a big role during the war in 1755.“In 1775, after the first engagement of American troops with the British at Lexington and Concord, Hamilton and other King's College students joined a New York volunteer militia company called the Corsicans, later renamed or reformed as the Hearts of Oak”(Wikipedia).
