The drinking age should be decreased from age 21 to 18 years old in the United States. One of the biggest problems I see is that teenagers rebel and drink anyway. 18 is the age when we are considered adults and I believe adults should have choices. Another problem is teenagers binge drink at the first opportunity to drink due to drinking being illegal. Problems outweigh the benefits in decreasing the drinking age. Teenagers are harmed socially and they are not able to enjoy a pleasurable experience with friends and family. There are components of this topic that many can argue but with choices and changes to support the decrease it can work. The problems that are caused by the problem is binge drinking which leads to uncontrolled drinking habits and even death in teenagers. If drinking age is decreased moderation will be developed within family’s homes. Supporting family values will grow within the decisions. The government is to blame for the laws and decisions that Americans follow. This has been a debatable topic for some time now. The government has failed to pass the decreased drinking law without thinking about ways to support the law. To address the current law on this topic I believe that the drinking age should be decreased to age 18. I think the lawmakers could implement more public transportation routes. More buses, subways and trolleys especially from bar districts. Other people might argue that more drinking and driving will occur with the new age bracket. I believe that the stricter regulations on bar serving sizes and quantities can withhold greater presence along with public transportation increase. This change will be extremely positive for our economy. Restaurants and bars will have more revenue and in turn pay more taxes. Stores will have more income and the economy will benefit in a positive surplus of financial standing. I believe teens will benefit by not binge drinking and develop more social drinking standards. Binge drinking has a number of health risks and problems that associate with it. Educational programs and family communication is the start for success with drinking for teens. The public will reject this proposal I am sure of it. There are originations against drunk driving that will object to this. I want to point out I am not trying to create more drunk drinking I am trying to lessen drunk driving. I want to create standards of drinking for adults at a comfort level of each individual. People will always drink and drive no matter what the laws are. Stricter laws as mentioned in previous statements will be needed. Logic and sensible approaches are always needed and to proceed with caution so the right decisions are made.

There are many dangers and potential problems with lowering the drinking age. The states of Massachusetts, Michigan and Maine lowered the drinking age, and then experienced a slight increase in alcohol related crashes among the 18 to 20 year old age range. Desired results? Hardly. What about insurance companies? The law may recognize the age being lowered, but insurance might not. I do not think that the mind of a teenager could handle alcohol, especially if not taught how to drink responsibly. Teens, in my opinion, are not mature enough to be given that open opportunity. I think that it would cause more harm than good. It would be my assumption that if we lowered the drinking age, there would be a higher change of alcoholism and alcohol related deaths among teenagers. That may not be true but it seems as though it would be reasonable to assume so.
