1.0 Introduction Nowadays, the number of competition in business in developed countries is increase. As the competition is increase, they also facing a lot of challenges. One of them is the aging workforce. The aging workforce is people who still working at the age of 55 and older. According to Government Accountability Office (GAO) report issued, the number of workers that over age of 55 is increases significantly over the next 20 years. There are many reasons that make old people still want to work rather than retiring. Some of the reasons are they still need money. Although they have children that will take care of them, but some people doesn’t want to make their children too busy because of them. So, they decided to work to earn more money by themselves. Though many companies will pay more to older workers because they were more educated and have many experience. The other reason is they don’t like to just sit and sleep in their house. They prefer to spend their knowledge and experience to the company. Friendly workers also will wake the older worker still want to work because friendly workers make them attractive to stay in the labor force.

    The Baby Boomers are a globally recognized cohort of individuals who were born post World War II, between 1943 and 1960 (Salahuddin, 2011). This shockwave of births resulted in the second highest births per year with 1.5 million more births than had been expected (Salahuddin, 2011). 60 years later, the boomers are in the midst of their transition towards retirement from their careers and this trend will result in nearly the largest wave of retirement that our continent has experienced. The implications of this wave have been expected and planned for, but until the consequences are realized in the 21st century economy, there is little that can be done to prepare for this economical shift. Though the effects will be experienced globally, this paper will focus on the Canadian and American economies. The ideas behind this topic are worthy of discussion as is evident by looking at research on the topic to date. The North American implications are numerous so it seems necessary to reduce the exploration of the topic to what are perceived to be the most drastic impacts in terms of organization theory. The position of this paper will be that though the wave of retirement will occur and will result in an economic and societal shift, it will not be detrimental to the staffing levels of large corporations. It will, however, have significant impacts on the day-to-day operations of organizations as they adapt to the differing work styles and preferences of the new and upcoming demographics. Additionally, the major impact that this wave will have will be on the human resource functions of the organizations, as they fight the combat of high turnover, restructuring, and the effective implementation of these changes.…

    The scope of this paper is to look at effective ways to engage and retain older workers to deliver quality community Aged care services in rural Australia. The ageing population has resulted in a necessity to recruit older workers to fill positions in all industries including the aged care sector. "We are in the midst of the most significant demographic shift in modern human history where populations across the globe are ageing” (Safework SA 2013, Age Friendly Workplace p2). For Uniting Care agencies in rural communities there are difficulties associated with employing and retaining Nurses. The average age of a Blue Care staff member within Queensland is forty-eight years old with the average age of Registered Nurses within the North Burnett is fifty-eight years. It may be a good thing that our workforce is older because it could place Uniting Care in a marketing advantage to better cater for the needs of older people. Personal experience indicates that older people like older people to care for them as they relate to them better. Some staff have not taken early retirement due to the global financial crisis and personal choice to continue to work for social reasons. People are living longer and if they retire early they may run out of money.     The economy’s long-term shift toward knowledge-based jobs and away from physical labor is a force that might be increasing the rolls of older workers. Already, older employees with higher level of education seem to be playing a major role in the trend (Peterson). The problem is that companies are going to need to hire somebody young who has the same brain of a 64-year-old but is able to perform tasks more efficiently like a 24-year-old. “Health problems and workplace pressures such as cutbacks force many workers into retirement earlier than they expect.     In 1946, America received its first round of baby boomers that continued for the course of 18 years in which more than seventy-nine million babies were born. With that being said, most of the first round of baby boomers are turning 66 this year while the last flood of baby boomers will turn 48 (About.com.Geography ).
