Afterlife Secreted: A Short Story
Afterlife Secreted Tofu is a bad child who lives with a loyal father. Tofu misbehaves a lot, but is loyal to his dad. Tofu’s dad knows what his nature is and tries to lighten him up, but he takes the wrong turn as he goes to the haunted tomb where he had discovered Khufu’s obelisk. His dad had clearly forgotten what had been wrote on the obelisk about secret afterlife, and to this date, no one knows where they both are. Mist filled the tomb’s air and echoes spawned by the winds filled the passage. Tofu jumped up and down restlessly through the dust and choked on a piece of lint. “Yuck!”, he grumbled as he spit out the wet piece of lint. He grumpily slided through the rough, dusty road.”I am just an ordinary child, why does life have to be unfair?” His dad soon broke in,“Just do not worry, we will …show more content…
What ha-”And the last words of Tofu that could be hardly heard were,”Bye.” Julius was surprised, but soon an obelisk hit him. It was made of alabaster, he knew this had to be of Khufu. Julius scrambled through the hieroglyphic words and translated the writing. All he could bring to life was”The naughty will be punished to silent death, and the lord Khufu will rise to the modern age replacing the naughty one who dares trot into his tomb!”Julius could not believe this. All he remembered last time was that it talked about his secrets, but this? Julius fell to the ground in tears, with the fact that his only child was replaced by a Egyptian menace who had more ruthlessness than Tofu.
Soon, more than fifty obelisks fell, all of them cursed. Soon, the cursed Tofu rose, with red bloody eyes.”No one dares to touch my life”, he said in a snarly, vicious voice. Khufu is inside Tofu. Afterlife is a true concept.
To this day, no one knows where his Dad and Tofu are, again. Even the story of secret afterlife is lying under the covers of the haunted tomb, which was now left down to the biggest family in the whole egyptian kingdom. A family of fifty

"Near the threshold he stopped, horror-stricken at the sight of a thing. He was being looked at by a dead man who was seated with his back against a columnlike tree. The corpse was dressed in a uniform that had once been blue, but was now faded to a melancholy shade of green. The eyes, staring at the youth, had changed to the dull hue to be seen on the side of a dead fish. The mouth was open. Its red had changed to an appalling yellow. Over the gray skin of the face ran little ants. One was trundling some sort of bundle along the upper lip.”…

The wind howled around me like a pack of starving wolves as I entered the cemeteries rusty iron gates. Yet it seemed so wild and chaotic that it reminded me of home, so it didn’t bother me at all, I was used to it. My brother’s headstone was only a ten minute walk away so I let myself drink in the moonlight and the memories the cemetery held. I remembered the first time I went there with my mother, just after Jason died... She led me down the now familiar mud track past the eerie, dancing trees, to the spot she planned on burying him. And it wasn’t until I was standing in front of the headstone that I realized he was gone ; that was the first time I truly cried. I slowly walked down the pebbly path and admired the cherry blossoms that were flourishing around the graveyard. It was a cold Aprils night and it was going to be dark soon.…

I chose this particular piece due to the abundance of our chapters mentioning burial practices, tombs, and relics left behind to honor the dead. Death was important to people of ancient worlds. Her older brother, Paul, is that person she looks up to. She has a sort of epiphany after playing and digging through dirt in her grandfather's old grave with her brother and finding a gold ring which gears her into discovering her femininity. The author, Katherine Anne Porter uses symbolism to a great extent to illustrate the themes of redemption and Miranda's epiphany of deciding to accept and embrace her existence as a woman.…

You stumble across a cemetery and impulsively decide to take look around. Once you step inside, you immediately notice hundreds of tombstones scattered around. You take a long breath and move tentatively around knowing you have walked into the valley of death surrounded by silent souls. You look around and see the hollow eyes of death, smell the coldness of death, and hear the silent whispers of death. Tombstone after tombstone you wonder if that woman had a sister, what that young boy died from, what the old man did for a living, or why that young girl deserved to die. Tombstone after tombstone you suffocate in sorrow. Tombstone after tombstone you decide to maneuver your way out of the cemetery, but the smell of death sticks to your skin…

Thousands of headstones in the far distance create magnificent mazes against the horizon. The immense land has very little room to spare as it is overflowing with graves of heroic soldiers. The white marble graves are like oversized dominos stacked precisely in the thick wind ruffled grass. It is almost inconceivable to imagine each tomb is the physical eternal home to a once courageous and patriotic warrior…
