African Queen Journey

Based on your observations on the similarities between The African Queen (1951) and Monster’s University (2013), in my opinion the hybrid genre is better achieved when the protagonists are on the same side and pursuing a common goal rather than simply each other. In The African Queen, this common goal consists of sinking the Louisa and in that process characteristics of an Action-adventure genre develop. Similarly, in Monster’s University getting back into the Scare Program leads to the Action-adventure characteristic development.
