Today’s appraisal was planned in advance so it gave me time to reflect on any areas I thought I needed help in. Undertaking reflection alone is sometimes difficult, that’s why I find it important to make use of my supervisor in order to get feedback on what I have done. Support networks whether formal or informal, are one of the most effective means of identifying areas of my practice which need further development.…

In order for us to continually improve we first need to be able to reflect on our current professional practice. Being able to reflect allows us to identify what we are doing well and where we need to or might like to improve; it also allows us to ensure we are meeting all necessary standards and expectations within the organisations policies and procedures and current health and social care standards. CPD is paramount for my career and increases my chance of promotion and employability within my sector.…

I have chosen to present my reflective report using Driscoll’s model (2007) of reflection because it is a developmental model that includes all the core skills of reflection: description, self-awareness, critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis; it consists in three stages in reflecting on one’s practice: ‘what?’ ‘so what?’ ‘now what?’. These trigger questions give a broad and substantial reflective process by challenging a more in depth examination, resulting in an action plan for the future (Bulman & Schutz,…

Reflecting on the situation that had taken place during my second placement working in the community. This will give me the perfect opportunity to develop and utilise my commutation skills in order to maintain the relationships with my patient. In this reflection, I am going to use Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle. This model is a recognised framework for my reflection. Gibbs (1988). Baird and Winter (2005,) give some reasons why reflection is require in the reflective practice. They state that a reflect is to generate the practice knowledge, assist an ability to adapt new situations, develop self-esteem and satisfaction as well as to value, develop and professionalizing practice. However, Siviter (2004) explain that reflection is about gaining self-confidence, identify when to improve, learning from own mistakes and behaviour, looking at other people perspectives, being self-aware and improving the future by learning the past.…

Reflecting on your practice is important as it allows you to identify areas in which you need to improve, i.e. communication. I may ask to go on training for Makaton as I find it difficult to understand what is being communicated by a certain service user. This would benefit both myself and the service user. I have some difficulty in communicating with M.A. He uses Makaton very loosely, and his speech skills are very limited. When I first started work with him I really struggled. I brought this up in supervision and at my 3 month probation meeting, as I felt that I was somehow failing in my role as a support worker. However, my mind was put at rest by both my senior and HOS as they too struggled to understand what he was saying. I; like them, have learned to persevere and have a better understanding of what it is he is trying to convey.…
