Two letters talking about the same thing, have different views on advertising in schools. One says it is good the other says it is bad, but how does the tone of both letters effect the persuation? In text A it tells how advertising in schools should be ban. his tone is not very understanding of anyone's point of view on the subject. however, his tone is caring he cares about the manipulation of students, especially younger ones. he also cares about his piers's school work and grades, he is afraid that if they worry about seeing this new show, or buying this new product then they are not going to have time to study, which will result in falling, or even failing grades.     Taking into account that the primary, or intended, audience of the text is university students, and that this work is meant to provide beneficial information and knowledge about a specific aspect of writing, the author manipulates the tone in such a way that it satisfies the requirements of the rhetorical situation. Moreover, he crafts the tone with impressive skill in order to attract the readers’ attention and grip their interests so that they can better grasp the subject matter being examined. The tone, which expresses the author’s attitude towards the topic at hand, switches back and forth between being humorous and informative. At certain times, it is comic and light-hearted, which helps to create an entertaining and lively atmosphere. This, in turn, causes the readers to become engrossed in the material they are reading since the tone induces an enjoyable mood. Once the author manages to lure them in, he shifts to a more serious, informative tone. This type of instructive tone is better suited for educational purposes and allows the readers to learn and gain knowledge. Consequently, the fusion of the two tones proves to be an effective combination since the author not only manages to entertain his readers, but at the same time, also ensures that they learn something from his work. In “Children as Consumers: Advertising and Marketing,” Sandra L. Calvert, a professor of psychology at Georgetown University, talks about the different ways in which businesses and companies use advertising and marketing strategies to persuade children into becoming consumers of their goods. She also explains that the reason many corporations practise this approach is because, since they are immature and naïve, children are easily influenced. With the technology that is available in the twenty first century, it is now possible for educated professionals to decide whether they would like to work from home and collaborate with family members to meet work demands. Alesia Montgomery is an African American Ethnographer who wrote “Kitchen Conferences and Garage Cubicles: The Merger of Home and Work in the 24-7 Global Economy”. This study was one of many published in 2008’s book entitled The Changing Landscape of Work and Family in the American Middle Class: Reports From the Field, which focused on “providing insights into the changing nature of working families in the United States” (1008). Montgomery’s main argument is that today’s modern society and global economy have enabled families to “merge work and home in quasi-entrepreneurial ways” (1018), which will in turn deepen the attachment between family members. Her secondary claim is that the merging of these two worlds does not come without a downside; your home will no longer “serve as a refuge from job pressures” (1018) and job demands may be “made more invasive by the use of innovative communication technology” (1019).
