Advanced Practice Nursing Definition
Advanced practice nursing seems to have many different definitions and interpretations. When looking at different definitions from our text, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and the APRN consensus model, we are able to get an idea of what exactly an advanced practice nurse means. According to our text, advanced practice nursing is believed to be an overall concept. It is not considered a role, a replacement for physicians, or even an array of skills. It is more like a strong idea that originated over a century ago. This definition presents a stable core awareness for all APN roles (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, & O'Grady, 2014).
