Dear Admissions Appeal Committee:

As I write this letter to you, I am doing so with an immense sense of hope, appeal and expectation. In 2007 I was enrolled as a full time student I was happy and healthy enjoying the things that life had thrown my way. These events include two divorces, five house relocations, and a transfer to a new high school during senior year. I consistently failed assignments and could not stay focused during class as my . Most teenagers would have given up here as the disappointment from both their parents and teachers would have destroyed their hopes for a successful future. However, this anguish became a catalyst for what would become a significant restructuring in both my demeanor towards schoolwork and my perspective on the future. Against all odds I was able to bounce back from the discouragement I had faced. I believe that this…

I am really thankful for the generous award letter, but I still can not afford to attend University. On the award letter sent to me on June 22, 2007, it suggested that my parents should take a $9500 Federal Plus Loan. My parents have $480,000 mortgages that they are struggling to pay—they pay $2,710.53 for the first mortgage and $1,188.08 for the second mortgage (monthly). Yet, they make only $4200 from their jobs. They also need pay for utilities and foods—they are scrambling every dollar to pay these bills. Therefore, I can not see myself asking my parents to take another loan on my behalf. My family simply can not financially support my college education.…

My desired outcome of my financial aid appeal is to be approved which means to have another chance at finishing college because if I don’t get this chance again I know for a fact that I will never finish college, as I work a minimum wage job and have a child to take care of, and I want to better our life. Today I received a message in my student email about my academic progress. I was denied Financial Aid due to my poor academic performance my 2015-2016 semester at Mesa Community College. The reason for not meeting academic requirements the previous semester was because of my lack of organization with working, sports, and studying. I take full responsibility in not putting my academics before sports and work leading me to write this letter. I truly believed I could juggle working 20 hours a week as a swim instructor and also be a student-athlete for Mesa Community College while maintaining strong grades. I soon found myself struggling in classes and doing poorly on exams because I was not using my time correctly and pushing my school work to the side. In high school I worked as a swim instructor and ran cross country as I am now, I put little effort into studying and did what I had to do to get by. Those poor habits followed me into college and are now backfiring with proof through my GPA.…

    Appeal Letter

This letter is written in an attempt to appeal my academic probation and allow me to receive financial aid so I can continue my college education. During 2007 and 2008 my grades were poor. The cause is no less than my own fault, but I believe the circumstances I faced led my focus away from my education. In the spring of 2007 my father suffered a heart attack. This event sent my world into a spiral. I continued school as best I could and helped my mother take care of my father. To help with the costs of the medical bills I took out a private student loan for much more than was needed to pay for school. I was also out of a job and living off savings and credit cards, which was a huge mistake. Beginning towards the end of 2007 my bills began to pile up and I was getting behind. I managed to get a part-time job to help pay for bills and was still trying to go to school, but as the bills mounted part-time work wasn't enough to keep me afloat. I had to start working full time. I tried to continue my schoolwork, but as time went on work took over my life and my education took a backseat. I didn't plan on quitting school, so I never withdrew from classes and I constantly told myself I would go to class, but it never happened. Now that I have stabilized myself somewhat I hope to take on a light, manageable course load and get my education back on track. I hope this letter can help convince you that I can and will manage myself better and keep my grades up. Any additional information can and will be provided if necessary. Thank you for your time and consideration.…

Journal Entry #1 Most of my high school experience has not been pleasant. I have struggled with depression and anxiety, as well as physical health problems since the end of sixth grade. My attitude and attendance in school have been inconsistent up until the end of last year; my second junior year. Up until that moment, I thought that school was a complete waste of time, and that the only thing our education system was meant to do was condition people to give up their individualism and turn them into mindless sheeple. However, over the summer I began to realize that having a negative attitude towards my life and everything around me was only going to hinder me.…

After careful thought and consideration, I made the desire to return to school into a realistic goal. I had finally come to the conclusion, that it was time to take control of my circumstances, rather than continue to let my circumstances control me. For the first time in twenty years, I have a window of opportunity to fit a degree program into my daily schedule. Returning to school had always been a desire of mine, but in the past, I did not think I had the time or the money to pursue a degree. I was a single mother, I was working all of the time, my children were very young, and half of my wages went to daycare expenses.…
