Acc321 Final Portfolio
The final section of my Philadelphia University portfolio represents the specialized skills and knowledge that I have gained during my time here as a student. When I began my journey at Philadelphia University in Health Service management I was unaware of the major problems that impacted the healthcare field and my goals first were to apply for the states Administrator-In-Training program after graduation. Thereafter I wanted to complete the Administrator-In-Training program hours at my current job Elkins Crest Nursing Home. In the final analysis, I hoped to become an Administrator or an Assistant Administrator for Extendicare Health Services within the next two years. Working at Pennsylvania Hospital has altered my views slightly. I would like to stay within the Pennsylvania Hospital network and be an administrator.
After many long talks and interviews with my supervisor strongly advises me to stay in the hospital. They are also in pursuit of linking me up with the right people to possibly get an internship at Pennsylvania Hospital. I feel like I would make an exceptional Administrator because I can relate to the employees. Though out my studies I now know their issues and I know that though some things are black and white with no in between. I

I currently work in Food Services at long term care facility named Elkins Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation and at the Pennsylvania Hospital. The assignment that I covered in HIST321: Business, Industry and Work in American History with Professor Nealon showed me how the business environment that I currently work in has changed and developed over time. Lessons I have learned from this interview with Ronald G. Spaeth, as a graduate student in healthcare administration by reading about Mr. Spaeth’s education, awards and career accomplishments. For instance, Spaeth received a Gold Medal Award for his outstanding contributions as a leader in healthcare. I have learned that receiving a great award can start a successful career. Though, receiving an award is a part of career success. Completing an earned degree in business administration, and/or another Master’s degree is another great start for a professional successful career. Mr. Speath’s career goals were met by his educational background and work experience. I have learned that career success takes effectively working with students, leaders…

A master’s prepared nurse will gain insight into a world of nursing, possibly administration, and not often sough after. The master’s program of nursing gave M.D. the ability to advance his career, gain critical skill sets, and become an effective communicator. One of my hopes is to gain the same competencies that M.D., has through this program. This is the reason I have chosen GCU as my program of choice. Master of Science in Nursing With An Emphasis In Leadership In Heath Care, offers skills sets for finance, ethics, policy making, and leadership styles. As health care continues to change direction, so will the direction of nursing and in turn nurses will seek ways to become effective, diverse, and organized in their career…

The author of Addressing staffing shortages in an era of reform states, “It is estimated that by 2030 there will be a shortage of 900,000 nurses and 45,000 primary care physicians” (Sanford, 2013). It is more efficient to hire registered nurses in many causes because of his or her scope of practice is much broader than an LVN, said Dorel Harms, RN senior vice president for clinical services for California Hospital Association. (Larson, 2008) This is the trend for most hospitals in the United States. When a nurse is seeking a choice of employment, Magnet status hospitals can be a considerable draw for potential new employees. The economic realities and competition for RN’s can make Magnet status hospitals more a pilling for these nurses. Due to the present economic conditions, many hospitals are being bought, and becoming part of a larger hospital system. Houston has four of such systems. The Methodist, memorial Hermann, HCA and Tenet are such systems. Medical economic survival is the driving force that these smaller hospitals are being incorporated into larger systems. These larger hospitals must compete with each other for patient care and medical dollars. One of the most important ways this is being expressed is by applying for and completing for magnet status. Magnet status is becoming a vital status driven…

Being in the medical field for the past ten years, I have seen the growth and changes in the medical field. When I began my nursing career as a medical assistant, I noticed many other nurses continuing their education to be able to have greater hands on approach in nursing. This opened my eyes to the endless possibilities that a nurse can do, whether it’s with direct patient care or being a resource to patients and other nurses around. After completing my RN in May of 2015, I decided that I really enjoyed being a mentor and teacher to other nurses. That is why I am continuing on with my education in hopes to one day receive my Master’s degree in Nursing and be able to utilize the knowledge and skills that I build, to educate patients. I still…

My insight into the need of the nursing profession today is an increased need for advanced practice nurses. With the aging population in the United States of America, there is a growing need for health professional that cater to the adult and aging population. Also, the cost of doctors' visit deters individuals from seeing a health care provider for preventative and health promotion visits. My educational goal is to get a Masters of in Nursing with an Adult Nurse Practitioner Specialty track. A Master in Nursing at Azusa Pacific University would provide an opportunity to use the nursing process with greater autonomy, authority, and leadership in my practice. After completion of the program I intend to work with greater independence in decision making, accountability and a focus on health promotion and disease prevention. I will also possess the expertise in collecting, analyzing and labeling health problems in a collaborative health care environment.…

Morgan-Moe’s drug stores are in trouble. A major regional player in the retail industry, the company has hundreds of stores in the upper Midwest. Unfortunately, a sharp decline in the region’s manufacturing economy has put management in a serious financial bind. Revenues have been consistently dwindling. Customers spend less, and the stores have had to switch their focus to very low-margin commodities, such as milk and generic drugs, rather than the high-margin impulse-buy items that used to be the company’s bread and butter. The firm has had to close quite a few locations, reversing its expansion plans for the first time since it incorporated.…
