In a White House Funeral Sermon for Abraham Lincoln, it says “He is dead, but not for the cause he so ardently loved, so ably, patiently, faithfully represented and defended- not for himself only, not for us only- but for all the people in their coming generations”(SB 68). Here the author is talking not only about how Lincoln kept the union together, but also how he freed all the slaves and made America feel freer. As for Frederick Douglass, it is said that “this man, superb in love and logic, this man shall be remembered, Oh, not with a statues rhetoric, not with legends and poems and wreaths of bronze alone, but with

They both faced different struggles and had different successes, but in the end they weren’t really all that different. Although they grew up in different times they both had the same views on the importance of an education. They both saw education as freedom and as a sense of self-worth and though they achieved their education in different ways they both had a strong will and a strong sense of self-motivation.…

Lincoln believed that every person should be able to have liberty, but not every man had it. After Lincoln’s death, people truly realized how much Lincoln really wanted liberty for the slaves. At his funeral, Dr. Phineas Gurley said, “...though the friends of Liberty die, Liberty itself is immortal.” (SB p.68).Lincoln worked for liberty for the slaves even after hr died with the help of supporters. Even today we admire Lincoln because he wanted to make every man equal. Although Lincoln and Douglass were very different, they both wanted to make the slaves lives better. Despite great obstacles both Frederick Douglass and Malcolm X became literate. Although their paths to literacy have some notable differences, the similarities are most striking. History records Abraham Lincoln as the Great Emancipator, yet ardent abolitionists of his day such as William Lloyd Garrison viewed him with deep suspicion. Today, s I was resting on my patio, I decided to write about out president, Abraham Lincoln. I don’t know why I decided to do this. It could be because of the fact that he has just been elected in the election of 1860 as the sixteenth president of the United States. The northerners of our country have joined the republicans. Many rumors about the upcoming war have been spreading around. Recently, I have been very busy with my work on the farm, and now finally have some free time. While reading the newspaper I see that many articles have been printed about President Lincoln’s doings as president. Apparently, Lincoln has argued that his main purpose for this upcoming war is to save the union. At the beginning of this so called war Lincoln has called for seventy five thousand soldiers because of the recent attack on Fort Sumter, to Washington DC for protection against a possible confederate attack. I expect that president Lincoln is and will do his best to protect his people and his soldiers. He has had past leadership roles and he has been a successful lawyer and former state legislator in 1858. Although Lincoln has only limited military experience, I think that he will prevail. My friends think the same. They say that president Lincoln us finally going to put an end to slavery. However much I support this idea, I can’t help thinking that this change will not come about without quite a lot of sacrifices. Some people in the town ate saying that this war will not last more than one month or less. Due to discrepancy between the people and the president, Lincoln is receiving criticism from people who disagreed with his policies. In my opinion, these people are blinded by greed. The only reason they want this war is to earn more money. Well now that I have expressed my feelings about this whole incident, I think that it is time for me to relax and just hope for the best.…

When I mention the names Sarah Grimke and Frederick Douglass what comes to mind? Abolitionists? Equal rights activists? Of course, these two individuals are making great strives to fight for what they believe in. The sad thing about it is that we don't have enough people with the likes of these two. England abolished slavery in 1834 so how long will we go on with this inhumane cruelty toward people. Our country is in a state of denial and if we don't wake up soon, we will all pay the price. I'm going to discuss a little bit about these two abolitionist speakers, than compare and contrast their roles of rhetoric, morality, ideas, and backgrounds.…

In The Fiery Trail Mr. Foner the author has worked hard at making "white of black and black of white." He has made the "Great Emancipator" into the "Great Enslaver" while accusing him of "ethnic cleansing." According to Foner, "If Lincoln had had his way; there would be no Blacks in America. "Lincoln's real purpose as president was not to free the slaves, but to prolong slavery until he could put a plan in place to deport all Blacks to a foreign shore. Foner writes: "[Lincoln] did everything he could to deport Blacks and to make America a Great White Place."( Pg 22)…

Washington, DC, April 14, 1865, 10:45 p.m., the President of the United States was shot with a Philadelphia Deringer pistol at Ford’s Theatre while attending the play Our American Cousin. He was carried across the street where he died early the next morning. The assassin, John Wilkes Booth, made his escape by horse and rode to the house of Doctor Mudd, a resident of Maryland who repaired his leg. The next day Booth was found hiding in a barn and was killed, shot by a Union soldier through a crack in the barn wall. Within a week, news of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination spread throughout the country. In some parts of the country the reaction was one of shock and sorrow, however, in some southern states there was private and public celebration for various reasons. The fact that he was the head of the Union, supported the restriction of slavery, alone with his other political views, found John Wilkes Booth a hero in many households.…
