A Visit To Grandmother Character Analysis
In the stories, “What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish”, “A Visit to Grandmother”, and “Without a Title” there is something they all have in common. I think that when someone leaves their regular lifestyle, the way they think and behave can change, and that is exactly what happened in these three different stories. Changing lifestyle is not only difficult for one specific person, it can affect anybody anywhere. In the story, “What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish”, the characters Sergei and the goldfish both feel out of place at times. For example, Sergei and his best friend the magical goldfish move from Russia to Israel and notice a change in their behavior. Sergei felt much more relaxed and calm than when he was back in Russia having to deal with the knocking on his door everyday. His behavior and way of thinking changed in a positive way. In “A Visit to Grandmother”, the characters Chig and his father Charles go back to where Charles grew up. They are in a totally different environment than what they are used to. For instance, Charles drives to his old home and realizes that nothing has changed from the past. He still gets a bad feeling when he’s around that house. His behavior and way of thinking changed in a negative way. In …show more content…
My behavior and attitude changed in a negative way because I was so used to living in the cold weather rather than the intense California heat. I did not like being a new student at all, it was very scary. My attitude then changed in a positive way because i knew i would be able to see my cousins, aunts and uncles more often. I also knew that there were more dance opportunities for me in California rather than back in Minnesota. Although it took me quite a while, i eventually learned how to adapt myself to this completely new environment i was gonna be living

I genuinely did not expect to learn this much from the book Unbroken. The story of Louie Zamperini was unexpectedly much more understandable and relatable than I first imagined. Seeing the main character was a former war hero, I found it surprising I was able to connect to him as I happen to be fourteen. In my opinion, readers can easily compare similar situations in their life, regardless of their age. A point often overlooked, Louie is a true survivor. He was stranded forty-seven days on a crammed raft, as well as beaten without remorse at a prison camp for two years. Louie was stripped of his friends as he watched them either be transferred or slowly die. He witnessed many accounts of sexual abuse to innocent and helpless animals, as well…

Lena Lingard intrigues me. She’s gentle even though she’s lived on the farm her entire life and she manages to make the littlest things exciting with her charisma. In ways, her adventurousness and excitement make her similar to Tony. However, they differ in that Ántonia possesses a quiet beauty and inner strength that contrasts with Lena’s liveliness. It’s strange-- I dream the same dream “a great many times, and it [is] always the same. I [am] in a harvest-field full of shocks, and I [am] lying against one of them. Lena Lingard [comes] across the stubble barefoot, in a short skirt, with a curved reaping-hook in her hand, and she [is] flushed like the dawn, with a kind of luminous rosiness all about her. She [sits] down beside me, [turns] to me with a soft sigh and said, ‘Now they are all gone, and I can kiss you as much as I like.’ I...wish I could have this flattering dream about Ántonia, but I never [do].” (109) I love Ántonia and her steady independence but I cannot see her in my dreams in…

Duras redetermines the idea of the character in Savannah Bay. The three characters of Madeleine, Jeune Femme and Savannah cannot exist in their own rights. They all depend on each other’s action, memories, and admissions. Madeleine’s fragmented memories reflect her fragmented character. She is never a complete character, and the audience will never be granted a full picture of who she is. Jeune Femme is reliant on Madeleine for the representation of her mother, Savannah. Thus, it becomes unimportant to access the character of Jeune Femme, who, unlike Madeleine and Savannah, is not even accorded a name; she is merely a vessel present to retrieve information relating to the character of Savannah. Yet, Savannah is always absent. She is a character…

In “The Ones Who Walked Away,” the citizens and residents in this city seem to be happy and enjoy their life in the Omelas. Their life is full of peace and happiness even though they know the real reason for their happiness and the cruelty behind it. In the Omela’s the people know of the existence of a child who is living under terrible circumstances but yet they still go on with their lives as if though nothing is happening. The reason for this is because an unknown character placed terms on the city of Omelas where if they express some sort of compassion to the child suffering, all of their happiness and prosperity will change to the total opposite. In the text it states that, “They (referring to the people of Omelas) would like to do something…

The main character Adelina Amouteru and I are similar in several ways. Our appearances are not the same however, because half her face is ruined and her left eye is missing from a plague. She also has darker skin, whereas I am as pale as a ghost. She also has silverish whitish hair, and I have brown mixed with other random colors. She would be considered the black sheep of her family, and I am of mine as well. Although in her case, hers is much worse than mine because my family didn’t try to sell or kill me. Mine just thinks I’m strange. She also feeds off of anger and fear, which as strange as it sounds, I can relate to that as well. I can deal with angry or scared people better than I can with sad people. It makes no sense and is kind of…

In the story Speak Melinda is being seen by other students on the bus is very different from how the readers are viewing Melinda. At the beginning of the story Melinda gets on the bus at the first stop and she decides that she will sit in the front in hopes that one of her friends would sit with her. In the story Melinda says, “If I sit in the front, it will make me look like a little kid, but I figured it is my best chance I have making eye contacts with one of my friends, if any of them decided to talk to me yet” (Anderson pg. 3). Farewell My Concubine, a Chen Faige directed film. It was released in Hong Kong in 1993, and in this film, there are several famous Chinese actors and actress, such as Leslie Cheung, Fengyi Zhang, and Li Gong. Throughout the whole 170-minute film, a piece of Beijing Opera is running through, which is called Farewell My Concubine. The two Beijing opera actors become the main characters of this film. Actually, this film talks about the whole lives of these two Beijing opera performers. However, I think this film is not only about "whom", but more about "what", which is Beijing opera. It shows the entire story from 1924 till 1977. (Wikipedia)…
